I just got my AMD-65 kit from Tapco and I wanted to remove the front pistol grip.  I took off the grip but there is a piece of metal that helped to hold the pistol grip rattling around under the handguard.  I noticed that there is a lever near the front of the handguard.  How do I get the handguard off?  I moves a little but won't come off.

Thanks.

ar-poor.

Flip the lever which sould be in horizontal position pointing towards the buttstock over to point at the muzzle, now it's ready to slide out but it probably will take some force. I had to hold the forward pistol grip and nock it muzzle first against a piece of wood. Then i just filed the barrel ring down a little to make it slide in and out easy and finish it off twith some cold blue. Hope this helps.

agreed. flip the lever using a small screw driver to lift it up.

you may need to gently tap the retainer plate forward to get it to break free and slide forward.

Thanks.  I think it is rusted underneath the retainer.  I doesn't seem to move much at all.  I will try again today.

Ok. I had to strike it against a hard object to get it to come off.  Good idea.  Thanks a lot.  As usual the knowledge on this board has come through.

Thanks.
