I'm looking at buying one of their Romainian AK clones, at $329 it seems like a good deal.

Anyone have any experience with them?

I have not, but a good friend of mine ordered his SAR and a Colt 6400C M4 from Atlantic. He did not have any problems.

Never seen an unhappy post about them. But can you clarify "clone"? Just want to be sure you are getting what you want and I have not seen clone and Romanian termed together.

Ok, I guess I shouldn't have said "clone".  It's the Romainian AK they sell.  I've wanted an AK for years, and have regretted not buying one back when they were $150 (mid 80's or so).

Now I wonder if it's silly to buy one when I have an M1A, several AR's, a Garand, etc.  I keep telling myself it's a "toy" gun and not a serious weapon like my others.

Maybe this is pre-buyer's remorse?  Ah...what to do?

Well, having 13 calibers myself...

For under $400 you can shoot the hell out of it, not worry about throat erosion in the chrome bore or finish scratches, tear stuff up with 125gr slams for 8 cents a shot. You can cut an inch or so off your groups (likely 4" to 2.5") with a 7.62 AR, for more money and chrome bbls are not available for them.  And you can cheaply buy other mfg mags for fun, not trying to find what works best

This "toy gun" has probably killed 100,000 americans if not more, I would not call it a toy gun.

I guess it's the prospect of having one more mouth to feed.  Buyer's remorse....before I buy.

It is cool looking though.

Buy it before the child comes, after, the budget gets a little tighter.

That is an interesting number, I would guess less than sixty thousand, given that total losses in Viet Nam for the US were right around fifty thousand. Taking into account that it was quite common for our enemy there use non AK rifles, and the number of GI's killed by mines rockets, arty, bobby traps etc.. the total number of americans killed in that war with AK's was probably well under forty thousand. Since Viet Nam the most deadly war the US has been involved in has been the current war in Iraq, where we have lost less than seven hundred men so far, I doubt the number killed in all conflicts we have been involved with in between Viest Nam and Iraq today I would guess the even including the number of gang bangers and postal employees killed with AK's in the US is not much more than a few hundred.

I agree that the AK is from a toy and in terms of numbers of people killed by them they are probably right up there with many of the much more "serious" rifles, but it is nowhere near the league of the Mauser, Mosin Nagant, or the Enfield yet as far as numbers of victims killed (of course many collectors consider these guns garabage as well, other than the hitler worshippers who think they have found the holy grail everytime they get a hold of a K98 that you can still make out the swastika).

Allright maybe I was a little off on the number, but world wide im guessing the number of casulaties are really high.

Well, I took the plunge and orderd the Romainian AK today.  Should be here after the fourth, I hope.

I got two extra 30 rnd mags with it.

Any suggestions as to ammo?

Gunshow for ammo. Or you can go to the Ga Hometown forum and the guys there will tell you where in Hotlanta that you can find some . Wolf will be most likely what you will get.  Buy in bulk .A case is 1000 rnds. Normally gunshow prices are about $79-$89 for a case.  Im in Forsyth area. Nothing wrong with an AK. While not the cream of the crop  and top of the list in most catergories. It is top of the list in reliablity when assembled correctly . Nothing compares to what they can hold up to.  Congrads on your purchase. WarDawg

Unfortunately, I don't live around Atlanta.

I live down here near Bruswick, where arfcomers are few and far between.  Maybe one of these days, you Atlanta guys will have a shoot up there and I can drive up for it.

I am just finishing a project that had me working all over the place in and around Brunswick (and most of south Georgia as a matter of fact). I enjoyed working in the area. Hinesville isn't to far from you. my guess with all of the military in that area there will be at least a few decent shops. As for Gun shows in GA, I can tell you the Augusta shows are not worth the price to get in. When I lived in NC I went to the Raleigh and Fayetteville show regularly, but since moving to Augusta, I went to the first two (I only went to the second to make sure the suckiness at eh first wan't a fluke, It wasn't), and haven't bothered since. The only deals to be had were on high dollar deer rifles, unless you count the dollar a round Korean surplus 06 and .308.

I bought my VEPR2 from them. Quick service, quick delivery, a very good experience overall. I would certainly do buisness with them again.
