| I have a friend with a Polytec (sp?) AK rifle with a long barrel similar to the RPK, but without the bipod and it has a standard AK wood furniture set. It has "NM47-1072" and the number "386" inside a block above this. Does anyone have any info./pics/value of these rifles? It's a nice looking rifle and in good shape, but he doesn't know anything about it. He bought it years ago and had never researched it. Thanks for any help guys! |

it's probably a keng's import and worth $800 or so...depending on this weirdness in pricing right before the awb expires/renews/whatever. supposedly, the bbls. were selected by air gauging a bunch on the production line and laser straightness checked. no one i have talked to has confirmed this, but it is well within the realm of probability. i used to own a poly nm and it was my second most accurate ak. the funny thing was, a plain old poly technologies "legend" was the rifle that outshot it. go figure. they sold for about double the price of a standard chinese ak...about $475 iirc. they were limited production and the sales were sluggish. long after the ban, dealers were still trying to sell them and the 20" model was usually one of the least pricey pre-ban ak variants on the market. this was due to everyone wanting an eeeevil "assault rifle" at that time. even in 1994, when chicom fixed stock norincos were fetching outrageius money, the nm long bbl. versions were the deal to buy. your friend has a very well made ak variant. he should be proud to own such a nice rifle. btw, if he has one or can score one, the ultra-rare poly technologies scope mount from that period adds major zoot to the package. |
| Campy, thanks for your help. I'll pass along your info. I think he'll appreciate that! It is a very nice rifle and it's been very well taken care of. I've been trying to buy it from him for years, but he just wants to keep it. I really can't say I blame him! Thanks again. |
