shot my WASR-10 for the first time (finally) last weekend. took it appart and cleaned it.  but i noticed the black coating wore off the end of the bolt carrier where it enters the gas tube. is that normal? is that bad? does that make it more likely to rust now? or was the coating no biggie?

The gas piston on the WASR as well as the SAR have been replaced with US made parts, hence the end of the bolt carrier needs some touching up,and is quickly shot with some spray paint . The paint quickly wears away (particularly if the bolt carrier is cleaned with a solvent). Don't worry it is normal.

Normal,as you shoot it more you'll also notice finish wear on the receiver top rail. The more you shoot one,the rough edges will wear down and the action will get really smooth.Enjoy your AK,don't worry about it.

You just wiped off the soot from the wolf you were shooting.
