I was looking at the April 19 edition of the Shotgun News. SOG is selling a semi auto only version of the Czech VZ 58. But its a little high IMO. They`re asking for $1295.00 for it. Is this rifle worth it? Also gimme a little history on the U.S.A. gun as well as the real deal. Thanks

They have had it for sale for over a year now... Great design, great machine work, Czech stuff in general is awesome IMHO.
THe OOW does the kit justice for sure, I bugged OOW about making a receiver for 2 years, glad they finally did... I have held them in my hands, and shot a full auto real one, but don't know anybody who owns a semi OOW one yet. I want to buy a receiver kit, but that price is way up there (See other post about high cost of US made AK items).
Barrel had to have a muzzle lengthener because standard Vz-58 barrel is less than 16". Firing rate on the real deal is around 800-850, a bit faster than AKM/AK-47. Gets hotter fast too.
Uses tipping dual lug locking mechanism very similliar to the Walther P-38 pistol. This gun can still be seen to this day in the hands of Czech soldiers, although it has been out of production for a while now I was told. Original models had wood stocks, but the bulk have fiber/bakelite compressed furniture.
Battleship grey enamel over park is standard finish. Accesories include a scope rail for NSP2, cone flash hider, muzzle break device, bayonet, and a bipod which mounts to the bayo lug. All above accesssories are virtually non-existant in USA however (excpett bayos, now commonly available). Folding stock model is Vz-58V, P for the fixed. I beleive there are only 2-4 registered transferable full autos in the USA, which would command $16000-$20000 if sold in todays MG market. Class III supply houses the largest collection of post sample Vz-58s for law enforcement (around $300 each).

Ok are they worth what OOW is asking? Or should I wait to see if the price drops?
