I have two 5.45 AK's and would like a 7.62x39 AK next.  I was reading about the Arsenal USA / Global Trades model SSR-56-2.  This appears to be a good rifle.  Ant comments?  I am looking for something perhaps a bit better finished than a romanian SAR-1, since these seem to be all gone these days anyway.

the fit and finish of the ssr-56 is definitely much better than the run-of-the-mill sar.

global had some problems with this rifle. the early versions used a bushed bbl. setup that was prone to mis-alignment. some had sights as canted as any sar and some would just not shoot to point of aim.

despite the problems, the rifle is priced right...if you get a good one. i think the good ones far outnumber the bad ones, but folks weren't shy about telling how their $525 ssr-56 was a bigger pos than their sar.

be very certain of the details of a return agreement before buying the ssr-56! some folks had their 56's back to globaltrades 2 and 3 times without getting their problems fixed.

CAMPYBOB, Your repy is much appreciated. Sounds like I might be better off passing on the SSR-56-2, unless I can find one that I can test fire before I buy it.  What about one of the AK47's from ORF or another 'boutique builder"? Are they comparable to a 'good' SSR-56? Can I get into one of these for say under $500?
