I'm pretty new to the whole AK world and I would like to put a scope on my SAR-1.. Now I've seen the side rail scope mounts for like 39.00 but I'm wondering what people think as far as the best mount/scope combo??? I'm kind of a handgun guy and this is the first rifle I've ever owned and if I read any more I'm going to melt!

Take this time to show off your AK's ;-)

Thanks,

Cory

All due respect Thumbhole, that looks like a PK-AS you have in the pix... Which I think is a better choice than the Kobra.

If I'm mistaken I certainly apologize.

Budget scope w/magnification? Get the PSOP 4x24 w/the bullet-drop reticle for the 7.62x39.
Red dot/CQB scope? PK-AS is my first choice, Kobra's my second choice.

Yeah I think that those pics are definitely of the PK-AS.  The Kobra has a distinct look to it.

Ditto Tomac's post, and add the PO 3.5x21 is another fine option. Twice the price of the 4x24 (100/200) twice the weight (1lb/2lbs) but super clear glass and a sweet 12 deg field of view that covers 60ft at 100yds.

NOw you have the 2 best glass and 2 best dot options.

Cory,is the scope pictured the actual scope? The reason I ask is,I don't see the rubber eye cup.Eye relief is a pain in the arse without it.

It comes with the scope I bought, I just grabbed a generic picture of the scope.

If possible locate a Novosibrisk, and try to avoid the Belarus. The Belarus, dosen't have the true miltary optics. (info per Tantal)

Please Stay Away from any type of receiver cover mounting systems. a waste of money IMHO and from first hand experience. mmk
