Hello!  New here and looking for advice.  I am gonna buy my first AK and just want something fairly inexpensive that I can shoot..a bunch!
Looking at a SAR-1 and WASR-10 (regular stock, hi-cap of course!).  Given the choice, which should I go with?  Really appreciate the help...I got the itch bad!  :)

Welcome aboard!!!

Get them both!

Sar-1 as long as the gas block and fsb are not canted.

Better to get the gun that was alway HICAP.  You never know which monkey from centry might have milled the wasr out.

i prefer he sar-1 over the wasr. the wasr is a 10 riund, single-stack magazine rifle that has been converted to accept high capacitity magazines.

while this is not, in and of itself, necessarily a 'bad thing', if given the choice and the price difference is small...get the original akm...get the sar-1.

Wow, thanks for the quick responses guys.  I was definitely leaning towards the SAR for just the reasons stated.  Found a new 2003 model with a 10 rd, 30 rd mag, sling, cleaning kit/cleaning rod included for $298.95 at Guns-N-Stuff FAC.  Anybody done business with them?
They also have the Romanian Hi-Cap with Dragunov style buttstock for $269.95...oh, also the Oly Arms AR-15 plinker for $499...I want them all.  Somebody please stop me!  :)

Welcome to the Board and the wonderful world of AKs.Just a friendly warning,AKs are addictive! You will never be the same after you get your first one. That said, make your first choice a SAR 1,if you happen to get one with canted front sight we'll talk you through a remedy.

Thanks John.  Oh I can definitely tell it is going to be addictive...already looking to see what the next purchase is gonna be!  I bought a Yugo SKS last weekend at a gunshow and haven't even shot it yet but have wanted an AK for a long time.  I am a soon to be retired Russian/Serbian linguist in the military and have always had an interest in these weapons but never got around to buying any.  Looking forward to the adventure.

FAC is fine, some claims of optimistic grading on used equip, but fine for new stuff. NO sustitute for handpicks with Romy AKs. Factor in shipping and ffl fee, and $350 show price is good to select it yourself.

Cheap ARs worry me, but we would rather steer you than stop you....

Have any Mosins yet

Go with the SAR-1.  You will be glad you did.
