I've got a AK-47, Romanian WASR-10. It has the scope mounts on the side of the gun. Does any one know how that works?

I mean does the scope just stick out from the side, or is there an extention you can buy so it sticks up where your eye level would be?

I ask cause I just built an AR and am going to buy a HOLO sight and thought that I could also mount it on my AK when I shoot that.

I don't have a scope on my Wasr but I have seen Ak's with scopes on them and they sit on the gun like other scopes do; "on top" of the receiver. I am no expert, but I believe that is one of the few ways to mount a scope on an AK. Mabye CampyBob will chime in here with a more detailed answer.

BTW, if you check tapco they usually sell side mount AK optics.

If you look around the board/internet a little you should be able to find a picture. But, basicly what happens is a scope for an AK has a extension built into it so it attaches to the side rail and sits pretty much right above the reciever. I found a link afterall, Tantal's web page, plenty of pics here :http://tantal.kalashnikov.guns.ru/bst.html

For most any side rail AK, you can get a bracket that locks on and extends over the top of the receiver with a weaver rail for about $40.
