I purchased a pre-ban Norinco in early '95. Here I am trying to register it and I need proof that the 56S1.... is a Pre-ban under-folder.  After 15+ moves I don't have a rcpt, bill of sale etc. Help!!!

I know it is little help, but the fact that it isn't stamped MAK 90 is a start..Good luck, I am sure someone here will have a better solution.

you should be able to tell by the serial #.  I think they usually have a date code.  Somebody will be along soon to show you the way.

Jeepcreep,  Calling Jeepcreep.  I miss rotdorn and bill the cat.

if it says "56s1" then it's a preban.  Also if it's a factory underfolder with threads and a cleaning rod retainer setup that is further proof.

Where is it written that the 56S1... is the pre-ban code?

if the model number is "56s1", it is 99.9% certain that it is a pre-ban.

who was the importer? some of them were out of business prior to the passage of the '89 import ban.

No problems man.....throttle back bro...hang loose...you live in paradise....

Now..left side of the receiver, on the trunion, what are the markings. Also left side under the trunion, what are the markings.

Is there a bayo lug? As long as it isn't marked 156s-1 you will be fine...now pour up a cup of Kona and check out the markings...

The chinese had to re-designate the rifles they exported to the US after the '89 import ban.  Hence "MAK90" "NHM91" etc.  Some cought in customs at the time of the ban had there designations modified on the spot resulting in things like the "156s-1" that Rotdo... er, Jeepcreep mentioned  ( I thin that's how it worked, I'm not a Chicom expert).

I'm 99% sure you have a preban because of the 56S1.  Don't worry, the burden of prof is on the ATF.

LOL .No it's not. It's on him to be able to prove it's a preban.in this case just to register it in his state. yes i agree it's BS. mmk

I got the form from the shop I bought it from in Mar 95.  They purchased it in Dec 94 from another Dealer AWF fire arms, who sold their business.  SILE NY NY (the importer is said to be closed but their ph# is a beeper and they have not returned any calls.  I faxed the dealer who purchased the the business from AWF.  in the mean time does anyone have any info as to where the ser # codes denoting the pre-ban status are listed.
So far the ATF is not the issue, it is Hawaii.
