I want to configure my saiga for home defense.  Thinking of shortening barrel to 19", adding Rem-Choke and tritium sites.  Anyone done any  mods to Saigas?  Can a smith get a big-dot type night site on it, or does everyone use Kobra?

most guys use the kobra...it can take the recoil.

as far as a chop and choke, see you local trap/sporting clays/skeet/turkey scattergun smiths.

strip the furniture, lie thru yer teeth and tell them its a browning citori and i'm sure one of them will fix you up.

hmmm? you have an interesting mind! choke tubes in a saiga! get idea!

<campy thinks a magnaport job, forcing cones and a nice high vent rib with two bead sights and a decellerator in the buttstock would be cool at his local trap shoots!>

EAA already imports a 19" barreled Saiga that takes choke tubes. The chokes are *external* threads, though. Not sure if there's enough "meat" in the Saiga-12 barrel to accommodate a Rem choke or similar.

Incidentally, Campy, that same model also incorporates a vent-rib type sight with a bead front. Granted the rib is only about 6" long, but it's a start. ;-)

Personally, I'm planning to send my Saiga 12 to Marc Krebs to have his AR-style rear sight mounted to the receiver cover and a modified AK-74 front sight tower installed. Then I'll add ACE's AK windage drum that's threaded for AR front sight posts, and put an AO tritium Big Dot up front. Then, wearing a SureFire Universal Weaponlight, the Saiga will displace my 11-87P as king of the castle...
