There is a sear trip lever ramp machined in the right side of the carrier. Some semi-carriers have had this ramp neutered.

most semi auto ak's have a full auto carrier in them.

as hbarski said, the autosear trip ramp is located on the right, underside of the carrier and it is usually intact.
