OK, stupid Newby quesiton, but what does it take to build an AK from the various parts kits?

What tools and skills?

Is it as easy as assembling an AR?

simply put, an ak build is much more difficult that building the erector set-like ar or fal.

it requires riveting skills, a bbl. press or using the freeze/heat process to install the bbl., headspace gauges, a drill press, sometimes a milling machine, etc...to do a proper job.

it can be done with less tools, depending on how nice a job you are after.

see the post on the "8 hour ak build" here in general discussion for reference.

if you're like me, have no mechanical skills, or the tools, you would better off having it built by a gunsmith that is knowledgeable and has done a few.....one OPPS and you could easily ruin a receiver, trunion, barrel etc..

there are several very good gunsmiths that can build it for you, and you'll have a rifle that is a million times better then the SARs......but if you're the adventurous type, you could try to tackle it yourself

Building my CAR-15 was fun.

I don't know how much fun this will be.  It may be cheaper to find a good SAR-1.
