I just got a new AKM and put 200 rnds of Barnaul FMJ through it.  I brought it home, field stipped it and cleaned it.  Damn, it was dirty!  I cleaned the receiver internals, barrel and gas tube.  Actually the internals weren't that dirty but the gas tube was a friggin nightmare to clean.  I didn't have any really good way to do it either.  So, my question is how far to you experienced darksiders clean your rifle?  Do you do like what I did or do you say f*** the gas tube and just clean the receiver internals?  Also do you use a nylon bore brush or a metal one?  Thanks again.

NEVER use a steel bore brush! only rarely will you have to use a bronze one. always try to use a nylon bore brush, brass jag and coated rod.

the gas tube is easily cleaned with a large cal. pistol brush (nylon!) or shotgun brush.

let the solvents do the work...not the brush.

WHEN ...that is very inoften I clean the tube....I remove the handguard, and spray carb cleaner down the tube, and use a shotgun brush (brass) and patch to clean it.
