| Called Arsenal Inc. today inquiring which magazines will function reliably with the SAM-5. I was told that only the Bulgarian waffle mags had been tested on the SAM-5. Does anyone out there with real world experience know if the SAM-5 will function with German made SAR-3 steel mags and any other makes of mags that are designed to hold the 5.56x45 round? |

here's the deal...the bulgarians built their 5.56 rifles strictly for export sale and designed their magazine to suit their rifle (just as the russians did). for reliability, stock up on the mags that are designed to work in the rifle...the bulgarian polymer magazines. that said, i would think the east german weiger magazines (another purpose built mag, designed for the stillborn weiger rifle) would work (since both can function in the sar-3 with a little alteration). with a little tinkering, i see no reason why you couldn't get bakelites running, either. |
