Okay guys, wheres a good place to order a ak-74 from? also wheres a good place to magazines for them. |
|
i'm 6'1" and 33" sleeves...i prefer the short commie length stocks, myself. k-var sells american made polymer furniture that has buttstocks which are 1-1/4" longer than commie standard. they look better, but cost far more, than the $5 rubber buttpads. i would contact www.aimsurplus.com to order via phone. specify that you want straight sights!!! for pics, check out the tacked pic post in the romanian forum. you might as well contact midway and order the redstararms/power custom trigger set. it not only eliminates trigger slap, but will improve your shooting expirience. |
|
At 5'2" with really short sleaves I find the longer stocks more suited. I must be weird, either that or I am the only sane one here, on second though, I think there are few of use here who can be clasified as sane! As for the $5 rubber pads, they do work fine, and are a good long term alternative to the -var stocks. You will like the AK-74, it has become my second favorite gun very quickly. Edited to add that I second the notion of buying from AIM. |

Another endorsment for AIM surplus and adding that extended length wood (Walnut, Maple and Laminate)buttstocks can be purchased unfinished from www.ironwooddesigns.com/. I don't really have a preference when it comes to buttstock length, I've got both standard and extended stocks. The originals look a little better and the extended ones seem just a bit more comfortable in my opinion. |

I have 2 new AK-74's built on K-VAR kits by Troy Sellars 1048 Eagle View Drive Kodak, TN 37764 Phone/Fax: (865) 932-6509 They both have RSA triggers in them and have never been fired by me. My wife says clean out the safe for spring time so they are for sale. One is in wood the other black plastic. If any one is interested I will post some photos or you can e-mail at [email protected] |
RS, you need to go into Cartman mode and keep that pimp hand strong... [cartmanmode] Woman, get in the kitchen and bake me a pie! [/cartmanmode] |

They were built by Troy Sellars 1048 Eagle View Drive Kodak, TN 37764 Phone/Fax: (865) 932-6509 They both have RSA triggers The wood is awesome, my old nose did not smell any thing but Troy might of fixed that. I am Columbia, Missouri home of the Tigers and The Columbia Police Department Tank. I have never shot them. If they have been fired it was for function testing by Troy. The Black one is sold pending funds today. The wood is still up for grabs. |

In general, Hesse has poor quality control. If you pick up a Hesse, you'll notice scratches, visible weld marks around the muzzle brake, and in general shoddy workmanship. Several people on this forum have both Hesses and ended up with malfunctioning guns, even with a Hesse AK. For the money you spend on a Hesse, you might as well buy a Romanian SAR and have us guys tell you how to fix it up real nice. |

If you're going to go all out like I did with my SAR-2, it'll end up costing the same (~$700 = $300 for rifle + $100 for parts (muzzle brake and front sight base) + $250 for gunsmithing). I should be getting it back from AK-USA within the week. You should probably get one of those Bulgarian kits and have InRange or AK-USA build it for you. It's the best deal going, and you'll have a much more authentic AK-74 than the SAR-2, in the sense of the 90 degree gas block. The SAR-2 is more indicative of the 1st generation AKS-74s used in Afghanistan. I should probably put a wood or bakelite stock set on mine. Edited to add that the reason why my gunsmithing costs are so high is because a lot of work had to be done to my SAR-2. I had to have the gas block realigned, a new trigger group was installed (Gordon Tech), and the whole gun was refinished in Powder Coat. Then you have to tak into account the front sight base being knocked off and replaced with the original military type. |

1.5 months, but I purposedly told him to take his time since I don't have my spring break until the first week of April. To make matters worse, his Powder Coating machine broke down, and they haven't shipped it back to him yet. It should have been sent out a week ago, but it's not his fault. |

thanks ober, after 11 years in the Infantry i'm a crack shot with the AR. having said that a leaf site and ar sites are not the same. I'm hopefull that i will become a very good shot with my new sar-2. still haven't fired it yet. i've heard that the 5.45 is alot more accurate than the 7.62~39mm. i'm hoping this is the case, as this is the first reason i went with the sar-2. will a trigger set from red star arms help alot?i think in will. do you have one? thanks john |

For Campy and myself, the RSA trigger took about 1/2" off of our groups of 5 at 100 yds, from about 3" to 2 1/2" with SAR2, 4x scope and Barnaul. Considering that an AR gets 2" groups with 10 cent a shot ammo, that's fine by me. The quality of your Century trigger will vary like they all seem to, so your improvement will vary. |

1179, if you are that familiar with firarms you should have little problem with shots to 200 meters. Growing up in both Europe and the U.S. I am used to both leaf and peep style sights. I can shoot both about the same, (better at long range with the leaf style due to extensive Mauser shooting). I have the RSA trigger in two AK-47 varients, and three SAR-2s. I have also installed one in my dads Romak III. I bought some of the triggers before the rifles. The only AK I did not want to change the trigger in was the MAK-90. It had the best military trigger of them all, but to convert to "preban" I had to do it. Romanian triggers suck. My first sar-2 I couldn't shoot more than a few mags before my hand hurt from the trigger slap. The RSA is not cheap, but it is worth every penny. I would also suggest the retainer plate. Even once you get used to the shepherds hook it is still a pain in the butt. The $11 the plate will cost you will save half an hour of cursing at the designer of the thing. Its a 30 second job to install. Take out the cleaning rod when you do fire your SAR. Mine seems to degrade accuracy bady as it slides out on each shot. |

I have shot the 5.56 very little. 1989 in infantry school with an STG77 (Steyr AUG) was the last real shooting I did in the caliber. I have shot my AR very little due to it not working well. The little I can remember, I would say that with the break the 5.45 has less recoil. The only time my AR would work was when it had a bad trigger group and it fired full auto. (Yes guys I had this fixed quickly) I had a hard time keeping it from climbing. The AK I can bumpfire as if it were a .22LR. It feals more like a .22 mag out of a light bolt action. Maybe as much as a .22 Hornet, but still, light recoil. It recoils far less than my dads mini-14 which I think has excessive recoil / muzzle rise for its caliber. |
