Ok, so I see that there are threaded front site bases out on the market. For a SAR or Saiga, why couldn't one of these be taken, cut, and and welded to the front of the 90 degree gas block? I know some have done it, but what considerations need to be thought of? Are there any problems then with the barrel sticking out of the threaded portion of the base? To what dgree do the barrel diameters matter between the bulgarian bases and the Romanian or Saiga barrels near the gas blocks? Just tossing ideas around for my AK Shorty model. Let me knows any thoughts. Thanks.

i don't think the 90° gas block would look 'right' butted up against the fsb...the contour of the gas block does not readily avail itself to 'blending in' with the rear of the fsb.

the bbl. can stick forward thru the threaded fsb, but the farther it extends into the brake chamber, the less effective the brake will be. on the commie rifles, the bbl. flushes out with the end of the fsb's threads.

the bbl. can be tathe turned or the fsb bored such that it will slide rearward to meet the gas block...that is not a problem.

both the romanian and bulgarian ak-74's use the same gas block journal diameter, .594".

the romanian fsb is .517" while the bulgarian fsb is .575"

for the 7.62 rifles, the fsb is .575" and the gas block is .594".
