I have seen all the talk about PLUM stocks lately and I just have to ask. 1) When did the Soviets adopt this color? 2) Why did they adopt this color? 3) Is it common issue now, or still something rare? 4) Not to sound like the guys over on the AR side, but, does anyone have any pictures of them in service. I am not saying I don't believe it, I would just like to see it. |

"1) When did the Soviets adopt this color?" during a particularly bad acid trip at woodstock. "2) Why did they adopt this color?" the announcer said to "stay away from the brown acid". the next batch to go thru the crowd was purple...or so the legend goes. "3) Is it common issue now, or still something rare?" acid is far less common than when timothy lheary and mikhail used to get down. "4) Not to sound like the guys over on the AR side, but, does anyone have any pictures of them in service. I am not saying I don't believe it, I would just like to see it." in the boring post-hippie era, the russians finally figured out how to make black plastic. |

plum appeared on the ak-74m models, iirc. these are the left-side folding polymer buttstock rifles. ekie can give you a more accurate date than i could provide. i'm not sure anyone knows the 'why' on this. my guess would be either camoflage or polymer compounding issues (i don't buy into the compounding issues too heavily, though). plum ak's are still in service. all the late commercial stuff i've seen coming out of russia is true black. i don't know what their current issue color is. unless the pics are high-res close-ups with good lighting, the rifles all appear as black to my eyes. |

Look Bob! This forum isn't big enough for 2 smartassed know-it-alls! now, the plums were developed to compete with the US Purple Bushy ARs! .....now there! My Russian Plum looks black until you get right up on it, and hold the light just right. It dosen't have the stripes like the pics in the other post. |

Ever heard of 420? That used to be the name cops would use over the radio for kids smoking pot. "420 in progress". At my university, every April 20th, kids would go out in the middle of the day and late at night to the quad (this is a top 20 private university by the way), and they'd smoke out. One day the chancellor happened to walk through the quad. He smiled, wished them well, and went back to his office. The cops didn't do crap either. They only care when there's sanctioned university events or if people SELL drugs, but not use them. Pretty strange, eh? I never did the crap, nor do I drink alcohol, but I've learned a lot of crap the past 4 years ![]() themao

Themao, to let you know how horribly un-hip I am, I had never heard of 420 until this past November. There was a story in the local paper about a pizza shop that had a "420 special" advertized on their sign and some lady was complaining. I didn't get it, I thought it was saying that if you ordered a pizza at 4:20 you got the special for the day. Everyone got a good laugh out of me at work on that one. I remember watching the smoke rolling out of the windows in the girls dorm rooms in college. It was every weekend. The most educational part of college was not always in the class room. And I can honestly say that I have never tried it either. I don't drink too much any more, but back home, lets just say I would do the Irish proud. |
That's because where you're from in Austria, those people smoke pot, crack and opium all day, everyday, so they don't wake up and realize how much it sucks to live under socialism. Amsterdam is case in point. Zurich was for a time being as well.
Yeah, no kidding. I think I understand why my parent's generation is so messed up after going through four years of school surrounded by the "rich white folk" of the northeast (Kennedy Land). Those folks seriously have lost touch with the origins of this country, along with its traditions. I guess that's why in part I'm so damned cynical.
LOL! My best friend is half-German (mom from Germany), and he tells me about the mass drinking that goes on in Munich. You folks love your beer just about as much Boris Yeltsin likes his vodka bottle. themao

Only in Vienna my friend! We don't do that kind of thing where I am from. The thin air from the high altitude makes us light headed enough.
Can't argue with that.
Damn you have figued us "Germans" out. Hell, we were give a daily raion in the military. 100ML per day. The Sani (medic) had a special canteen full of liquer to take the sting of minor injuries so he could work on the more seriously injured should the need arise. We were always falling out of our skis and "getting hurt" so we could get a drink. AHHHHHHHH, those were the days. |

Interesting. I can see how it would be of use despite its limited effectiveness. Most battlefield situations just don't call for massive explosives, this would take care of most situations on the battlefield. We used Milans for everything. Extreemly expensive, and usually major overkill for what was needed. I saw one pick up an M-60 MBT 3 meters into the air and put it down about 10 meters back from the side it was hit from. We would use the same weapon for log or rock fortifications. The PRO would be much more practical in these situations, as well as MUCH cheaper. |
I knew it. So it was all about the polymer type and production there of. Then they came to their senses. Hey SOBR-MVD: We never finished our conversation about Russian hockey players! Why in the hell are they so damn lazy after they make their first million or more? I hope it doesn't happen to the Atlanta Thrashes' Ilya Kovalchuk. That guy sure has game for being only 19 years old. Glad to have you back, themao
