As you have probably seen, I have been kicking around getting a scope/optic for my SAR-1 for some time now. I have narrowed it down to two options: Option 1: Purchase the PO 3.5x21. I have heard nothing but great stuff about this scope even though it was designed for the AK74/5.45 cartridge. Price is pretty steep at around $250 Option 2: For the same amount of money, I could get a Kobra sight a PSOP-1 4x24 scope. That way I would have the Kobra for short range and the scope for reaching out a little further. What are your thoughts? |

I have used RS39's PO scope on his SAR-1. I liked it, but I shot it at very short range. It was very good even at close range, but still limits your ability to see the "big picture" at short range as any scope would. Great scope, but I thought it would be better used at long range. (we just didn't have the option to use it at long range at the time) I was impressed by its FOV at medium range while still retaining a crisp clear aiming point. The only long range down side I see is that the range finding reticule will be a pretty much a non-issue unless you shoot it enough to get the feel for the caliber difference. The Kobra has no magnification, but like most sights of its type, is made for short range. Due to its different aim point designs, you could use different ones for different ranges. I think one or two would be good for out to 200+ meters. It is not caliber specific, but is also not for as long of a range. IMO, it comes down to what you plan to use it for. I bought my Kobras for short range use but others have used them at longer ranges than I plan to. The PO would give you more range after some practice, and it is big and heavy enough to hide behind if a tank starts shooting back at you. I really don't know to much about the PSOP, but to buy both it and the Kobra again would come down to what you plan to use it for. Would you be able to carry both scopes safely and change them as needed? Or would they be for different hunting needs? Personaly, I would buy an SAR-2, add the PO, and slap the PSOP on my SAR-1. The Kobra could go back and forth between guns with only a little testing for point of impact. It's always easier to spend someone else's money. |
