I just came across three 30-rd AK magazines for my SAR-1 and for some reason, they don't seem to fit in the mag well correctly.

Two of the magazines seem kind of loose and move from side to side when in place, the other fits so tight that I can barely get it released.

Is this common?  What are some good magazines to purchase and from where?

Thanks

there is a variance in mag and magwell dimensions, from country of origin.

in the sar's i've owned, i've used chinese, romanian, east german, bulgarian, russian, egyptian, yugoslavian and hungarian magazines with equal success.

the only thing i've noticed is that bulgarian mags seem to fit more tightly than the others.

i really can't recommend one over the others, but for cost reasons i like the east german steel mags.

a little side-to-side play doesn't hurt a thing. figure out what fits your rifle to your liking and buy a half-dozen of that particular magazine.

someone was selling romanian steel mags for $8 at the last show i attended. you might try running those, as they are made for the romy rifles.

With the exception of the Bulgarian mags I too get some side wiggle with all other mags in my MAK 90 as well as my SLR 95. They always function though, I wouldnt worry about it.
