I'm thinking of getting a muzzle break for my new sar-2. What breaks does everyone suggest and where should I get it from. I like the look of the ak-74 brake, but don't know where the best place to buy one from is. Also how does it have to be attached. I'm assuming I'll get one that uses set screws but do they have to be epoxied in place or just really tight, legalitites?

Thanks,

Rick

You can get the origional Romainaim military break from K-var. It is a bit of a project though , and you need a few tools.

Campy can run you through that or read my old posts asking him how to do it.

I have the pin on beak for the MAK-90, honestly, I notice very litle difference and the break is a rust magnet.

Can of worms here. You are allowed only 10 imported parts on your toy, which has hammer, trigger, sear, pistol grip, and gas piston as US parts. Original Romy chrome lined is nice (Campy loves his) but something else has to go like the buttstock or handguards. I think that only the odd 22mm threads do not require welds or silver solder (high temp) so the BATF is not worried about easy switches to other evil muzzle attachments.
The kvar bit mates to a threaded front sight base ($45 plus effort of changing the base, plus $35 for the brake) and is original spec.
Myself, I just ordered an adaptor nut and brake in 7.62 (for SAR1, quick tack weld for each bit) from ak-103.com yesterday ($50.50 delivered). It seems to have all the right gas porting, but it will be another week before I get it and meet with Bob at the Wed night indoor 22 league to compare with his more expert eye.

I just got my Romy FSB and brake from K-var today.  I kept the parts count in check by adding a US buttstock from Ace, Ltd.  I went with the Romanian because I like the fact that it's chrome lined and removable making cleaning easier.  I have a question, though.  Do I have to grind off the "ears" on the bayo lug?

Thanks,
Bradd

GO WITH KOMMIE KOOL...THE ONE, THE ONLY...THE ORIGINAL!!! the ak-74 o.e.m. romanian brake.

best efficiency. highest kool factor. can be loose threaded on (no solder or weld necessary).

it's what every ak-74 deserves.

yeah, ya gotta replace the front sight base...but hey! your old fsb is cock-eyed anyway, right? and what better way to finally have something to properly retain your cleaning rod???

no excuses...the commie brake is chrome lined and best by a country mile.

treat yourself to the best.

BRADD D, you will need to grind the "ears" off the bayo lug.  You can leave the rest though, and it still looks pretty authentic.
