| what do you use to clean these? There are no standard cleaning rods I can think of that would work, no bore snakes in that size, etc. |
|
i use the kit that came with mine, most rifles come with a kit for just that reason, you can get 5.45 cleaning kits from tapco, or a lot of people just use ar15 kits, they work OK., not much diff in 5.45 and 5.56( for cleaning purposes anyway). (edited to add that CDNN, northridge int'l, and K-VAR all have kits for 5.45) they're getting more and more common. |

.22 rf jags, brushes and patches work fine. i use that stuff, most of the time. if i happen to be cleaning one of the ar's at the same time, i just use my 5.56 gear. either/or orks just ducky. while i'm at it, can i reccommend the "tetra" brand cleaning rods to you guys? better than kleenbore and dewey, imo. |

Bradd D, I think by the rules, you must clean it once before you die. Other than that you are OK. Or you can be like me, I refuse to let a gun go more than a few hours before cleaning it. I once cleaned my Mauser in the middle of a battle during a lull in the fighting. Seemed like a good thing to do at the time until I was trying to reasmble the bolt while being attacked! Sarge wans't real happy about that one. Good thing its not for real or I would have been toast. Ever try to hold back a charge of 25 screamming G.I.s with nothing more than a Nagant revolver? BTW, I use .22 cal. brushes on a .177 caliber air gun cleaning rod. |
I believe you Bradd. Just wasn't going to try pulling the thing through without knowing whether or not it will work. Actually I just got a .22 snake so should work out well. Thanks. |
