I'm looking at getting a C39V2 with the newer side scope rail.

Opinions on this gun? Any issues?

VSO/MAC did a segment on them but mine has been great. I got into building and don't use it as much because I have been fond of a underfolder at the moment but it never had a single issue in the thousands of rounds I put into it. I also rarely cleaned it. The newer ones have a side rail which is nice but the older ones can take a mount from ak master mounts. All in all I have been very happy with it and would recommend it. The new ones have a better barrel, side rail, and are built like a tank around that milled receiver. I really don't have any complaints. I know some don't care to buy from century from their issues but I don't mind. The only issue I can think of with the whole thing is the BCG is cast not forged. To me it isn't a issue and hasn't been so far. There was very few when it first came out that had heat treatig issues on the carrier but those are long gone.

Any bolt / bolt face issues?

None what so ever. Like I said above there was a few very early on that had heat treatment issues but that was a small batch years ago, if you have one with a side rail then that is the newest with a better barrel even though the old barrels were fine. If you want to email or pm me I can send pics, I don't remember my file hosting password but can email them over so you can see it stripped down.

Better barrel?

They are green mountain right?

They are but the original v2 had a 4140 and the new v2s have a 4150. Totally Subjective and most aks have a 4140 but people want 4150 . Both green mountain

I like mine fine enough.

Soft shooting and pretty accurate.  No issues.

MAC and VSO didn't have any issues with theirs and they admittedly abuse them an do a lot of dirty suppressor shooting with them.

Mine has the Magpul goodies on it.

I just re-read my post, didn't mean to imply they had a problem with it, they both past it, so did rob. The magpul gear is awesome. I love modern looking aks, although there is a special place in my hear for underfolders.

Listening to the guys at AK Files there is not ONE positive thread about the C39V2 on there. So it's good to hear

Honestly at the price point, an Arsenal SLR107R is a much much better rifle that doesn't use any Century made cast parts. That's how I would go.

The ak field is gettig busy and I think we will see prices go back down. Everyone is coming out with a ak and some old players are coming back. That said the c39v2 is fine. It works great. I put 2-3k rounds a year through it and no issues. Most people will see the bolt carrier being cast and say it's terrible and will break right away. The reality is most will never have a issue with it. Has there been broken carriers, yes there has but to my knowledge all were tracked back to that early batch of improperly heat treated units and all were taken care of by century with new carrier or rifles. If it bothers you you can also always get a new forged one for 80 bucks and get it fitted. I enjoy building them but the c39v2 is a great choice if you want a milled rifle that won't break the bank.

The C39V2 has a good barrel that's a little thicker than the typical AK barrel, so it ought to hold out on impact shift from barrel heating for a little longer than the typical AK barrel.  It has a very good trigger for an AK.  Real walnut furniture from what I can tell... unless you opt for the Magpul furniture (and that's top notch too).  While heavier than a sheetmetal AK, the machined receiver soaks up recoil.  A relatively few of the early ones had some of the carrier/bolt heat treat problems that the RAS47 did, but if you have a newer production one (most easily identified by the factory-installed side optic mount), it seems to be a problem of the past.  Since it has a milled receiver, it doesn't have the cast front trunnion of the RAS47.

I think a lot of AK forum members are traditionalists and there isn't a lot of love for the C39V2 because it's neither fish nor fowl: it's a milled receiver that takes stamped receiver furniture (this is a good thing as it's far more prevalent), it doesn't have a bayonet lug (pretty useless) or cleaning rod (more useless weight), and it has a non-traditional (nitride) finish to the barrel and metal instead of the shitty ComBloc finishes.  It also has an extended magazine release that the typical AK does not.  The side optic rail mount is different from other ComBloc mounts, but it's at least theoretically more secure and optics mounts makers such as RS Products are already churning out compatible mounts.  If you're a traditionalist with firm ideas about what a "real" AK is, you probably won't dig the choices made by Century in designing this rifle.  If you want a solid AK that shoots well and even manages to look good to boot, it's worth strong consideration.

Mine's been good to go and it's primarily shot suppressed at this point.
