I've seen many people refer to a Combloc factory. Does this refer to a specific factory or just any factory in a communist country?

I always "assumed" it referred to all the communist countries of that era.  Including China etc.  Could be I'm wrong.

The only time I use the term is in reference to firearms that were common among the communist part of the world like AKs and SKS.  Isn't meant as derogatory just a word,

At least we knew who our enemies were and they stayed on their side of the line. As crazy as MAD was it worked cause they didn't really want to die any quicker than we did. This new bunch of nutters can't wait to die.

The map shows the Cold War division of Europe  but some countries on the map didn't exist until after the Cold War.

That's why it says "on modern borders" right on the map.

I lived through the entire Cold War although I was a little kid when it started. Russia, N. Korea and Iran BS about 'annihilating' us but back then the Soviets were ready, willing and able to actually do it. Everybody understood that even if they did, we would have launched before their missiles hit us and basically the world as we knew it would end. Everybody born after 1990 has been basically free of that fear. That's why it is so important to control the proliferation of nuclear weapons. They were dark days. When I first heard that JFK had been killed, my first thought was the next event would be the nuclear attack following the assassination. I think the world went a little nuts under the fear of being wiped out in seconds, and the residual effects of it are still resonating.
