Have a MAK90 that is like new. Been in my safe for many years. Thinking of changing the stock and making it 922 compliant. Should I make the changes or leave it alone? Just wondering if unmolested MAK90s are going to become special to collectors? Thanks

Welcome to Arfcom.

With that horrible butt stock, I doubt it has much collector value.

If it were mine, I would unban it and shoot it.

Check out the Chinese section and get to de-banning that MAK-90!

Just put all the ban parts in a bag....

If the next owner has a t hole fetish he can put it back to MAK configuration.

If you are just going to put a Chinese pistol grip, buttstock, & some US trigger parts, then do it. But if you plan to spend lots of $ by threading the barrel, spiker mod, & then plan to sell the gun, you will never get back what you put into it. I have 3 MAK 90's. 2 milled, & 1 stamped. The stamped, & 1 milled look like real AK's now, but the other milled gun is bone stock. No need to restore it too. All that was changed was the pistol grip, & buttstock, so I don't have much $ in the restorations. GARY

I could easily (and have) gotten more than I paid for my maks, threaded barrel included. Fully debanned maks are selling for $1k-$1200 no problem. I also loan out my threading die for the cost of shipping.

You can deban a mak90 fully for a little less than an actual type 56.  In the end the only thing that will be different is that you most likely don't have a Chinese FSB.  But what you do have is the pride of doing the work yourself, and the knowledge of having one of the best AKs out there.
I can't see why anyone would NOT FULLY deban a MAK.  It's supposed to be a type 56, and it easily can be and should be, and nothing less.

Just my 2 cents

Maybe in Ct, but not here in Florida. I see them priced at gun shows for that price, but Sunday nights the sellers are taking them home, unsold. GARY

Iv got a caught in transit mak that i have no intention of putting a pistol grip on. I like how unique it is, threaded muzzle and bayonet on a mak90 how many have one of those. Not many. I dont shoot it though, its only had 45 rounds for sight in only. Pretty sure 922r is an importer/manufacturer/seller law/regulation. Likely perpetrated by those that want to sell you something.

I have one also, and it was also an underfolder, with a threaded barrel too.  It's actually not even stamped MAK 90, but rather AK-47S.  So it was before they even came up with the term MAK 90.
I debanned it the same day I picked it up....literally!

Remember, these are abominations, only to get by rediculous laws/import bans.
They were not designed to have a thumbhole stock.
Keeping it with that stock is like keeping an ar15 with no muzzle device, no bayo lug, and no collapsible stock after 2004....doesn't make much sense.....

Just my opinion though.

I think that the Polytech Legends are the more collectible ones, since many of them had the Milled receivers and threaded barrels.

Next of the list are the Norinco "Double Underfolders"...

and finally, then Polytech "red" sideforlder.

Just 1 man's opinion.

Very nice rifles above, but not relevant to what OP is asking/talking about

I didn't see him ask which Chinese rifle he should get for collectibility.....
