Picked one up for a good price at the LGS. I've seen poor review on AK Op Union depicting bolt/ bolt tail mushrooming issues. AKFiles has a few reports of that, but seemingly good reviews. So I know going in a few folks have had some known issues, and a specific person (Rob Ski) online really has a dislike for them. But then again, alot of folks report no issues whatsoever. So blah blah blah I'm a sucker for a pretty rifle and it was a good price so I figured why not, american made, good price, i'll beat the crap out of it and see if it's alright.
So this thread I'll chronicle my experiences with it. My background with AKs: - Owned a bunch. - Shot them a bunch. - Like commie guns. - No other Tier1 operating level Bro credentials. Century Arms RAS-47 American manufactured AK Picked up: 3/1/16 Initial Observations: Looks good. Action is smooth. Bolt has the 'x' on it that the interwebs says it needs. I got it with Magpul crap on it, and that went on the EE. It will get Russian furniture- handguards and stock. I'll give the magpul grip a shot as none of my other AKs have ever had one. For all intents and purposes it is solid AK. Made robust with American strength, or something. It's an AK. 1st Shoot: 3/3/16 - Didn't have alot of time, just ran down to brother in laws place before I had to get home. Only put 84 rounds through it- Wolf Classic. No issues. All feed fine out of magpul and a korean surplus mag. I didn't shoot for hardcore groups but in my lazy range time it's accurate. I was shooting a bounce target set out about 60 yards, and plinked a couple of monster cans at 25ish yards. It shoots where I aim it. All the (massive) amount of bullets I shot today were from standing shoulder fire. Nothing special. Functioned like an AK should. - Checked the internals after cleaning that evening. No issues, bolt and interior looks fine. 2nd Shoot: 3/5/16 - Went out today but got cut short when it ended up starting to piss buckets on us. Had my 8 year old with me and he wasn't in the mood to tough it out. Managed to put 75 more down the tube using Magpul mags. No issues in feeding/ firing. Was planning on doing a little run and gun with it, but got cut short with the rain. Ended up doing one mag kneeling, and 2 standing. Accuracy continues to be very good, once again shooting bounce target about 50 yards out this time. Ammo used was wolf classic. - Will clean and re lube up tonight or tommorrow. Quick inspection showed no issues. - Total Round count: 159 rnds. 3rd Shoot: 3/11/16 - Rain pisses me off. Got some time after work to do a little shooting, and once again the rain pissed upon me. Only 2 mags (56 rnds) down the tube. Was all sling rested. Accuracy at 50-70 yards was boring. Then the rain came. Will actually put some real ammo through it SOON. - No issues with BCG or internals yet. Still looks pretty brand new. - Total Round count: 215 rounds. * Will continue to update with each range trip etc. |

Picked up ras47 and c39v2 within the last week and took them out today. Both shot great with no issues and surprising accuracy with irons. Figured I had enough AR's and want to wait till some MCX barrels come out so I went with the AK and man am I liking them.
