I recently aquired a Saiga 308 (converted) in a trade. It's really nice. Folding stock, tri-rail, PWS muzzle device. H08740xxx is the serial number. I'm wondering if my rifle is one that has a stepped chamber. I've heard stories about some of these rifles dinging / marking shell casings by design. Can anyone tell me the approximate age of this rifle? It was imported by Russian American Armory Company btw. I'm also thinking about replacing the high profile scope mount with one that sits lower to the bore axis if anyone can recommend a good one. Thanks.

RS Regulate for the mount, Arsenal SM-13 is another great choice.

The date of MFG is clearly stamped on the side of the receiver. My 308 Saiga ser # is H06740XXX was made in 06, & the same importer. The year of MFG is located 1" under the ser #.  GARY

Ok thanks. Any idea about the stepped chamber? Do all Saigas have them?

Look inside the chamber and see for yourself.

I did. I can't tell. If it is, it's not obvious.
