[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Bakelite Goodness

I thought I would share with you some Bakelite goodness I've just amassed. I had the Magazines and Bayonet (Bulgarian Type 3 AKM) but I just added the Handguards and Pistol Grip from Apex.

Of course, now I need a new WASR, some type of folding stock (Beyrl is on my list) and I'll be good.

So much bakelite, did you refinish the mag bodies?

I dropped all of the handguards and pistol grip in boiling hot water with dawn (dishwasher soap) and then cleaned them.

I then took CLP and 00 steel wool and CLP to make them all look pretty.

I've heard using petro. based oils isn't good for the longterm for bakelite, but can't say for sure myself. Either way he has some smooth looking pieces in that thread.

Thanks Type56s - that's a good read. I admit the CLP wrote was easy and rewarding.

Finslayer83 - I put a cut up aluminum can piece between the barrel and the handguard. It's worked for me on my two other guns (Underfolder and AES-10B).

who doesn't love bakelite?

I went with Bulgarian gas tube piece and PG, but with a Tantal lower HG because I just really like the palm swell.
