My wife got me an AK for my 40th birthday and I want to change the stock from the TAPCO to the one pictured in the link. I have searched but cannot seem to locate it.
Any help would be much appreciated. http://www.impactguns.com/data/default/images/catalog/535/SLR107-23_b.jpg Thanks, Michael |

You have an AKM fixed stock rear trunnion. You would need to have the rear trunnion replaced and the receiver modified to use that stock you posted. Quoted:

Do you know where to get the stock? http://www.k-var.com/shop/AK-432R.html That is for the stock, trunnion, and all of the hardware that you would need. That is also the latest 5.5mm pin version, so if you want to run the tan stock like in your picture you'll need to find a Bulgarian 4.5mm pin trunnion. The tan stock (by itself) is here: http://www.k-var.com/shop/AK-LSFD.html |

I'd like to offer some advice before you make the purchase of the rear trunnion parts and or stock (hopefully you haven't purchased them yet). What everyone here has been trying to tell you, is that your rifle will require some work to get the left side folding stock installed properly. Basically, a qualified AK gunsmith would need to do it and that is going to take time and money. Not exactly sure how much but if I had to guess, probably $200+ for just the labor. Here's my recommendation. Take it for what it's worth. Bite the bullet (seriously, no pun intended) and buy the Arsenal SLR-107FR with the tan stock set. Then post your WASR with 1 x 30 round mag, sling, and cleaning rod for $475.00 face to face or $500.00 shipped to recoup some of your cost. Take care! Sweet, look! My 762 post and in the AK forum no less |

If you're set on using the WASR you have, then the quickest and easiest route may be to swap receivers for one that will accept that rear trunion/folder assembly.
Nodak Spud has its NDS-1KP receiver which is what you would need for $110 here. Otherwise, you're looking at a heck of a project! Good luck with it no matter which direction you go. EDIT: also, a cheaper way to get the parts is to get the Bulgarian trunion and hardware here and then haunt the EE for an Arsenal take-off side-folder stock. They come up for sale fairly often in the $80 range, but that is without the rear trunion or hardware you need. Also, beware that the Russian and Bulgarian sidefolders are setup for different sized pins, so go all Russian or all Bulgarian. |

That's my thought, too. OP, do you want the exact same stock pictured or are you just looking for a side folding stock for your WASR? |

Yes, I linked to it, but it's the 5.5mm pin set. They haven't had the 4.5mm pin set for a while now. Quoted:

Kvar does have triangle folders with all the parts needed for $300. Yes, I linked to it, but it's the 5.5mm pin set. They haven't had the 4.5mm pin set for a while now. Beggars can't be choosers. |

This is all a bad idea.
1. Cost - Parts and labor cost more than selling your current gun and getting a SLR107 2. Legality - If the Wasr is an import gun with the serial number on the trunnion, it's not legal to deface that number or swap the receiver. It's been a while since I looked over the rules. Aside from that why ruin a nice factory gun and swap in a US receiver. 3. Russian side folder parts won't work with Bulgarian pattern receivers (NDS-1KP) they use a 4 degree angle vs 6.5 in the rear. 4. If you are set on doing this, send it out to JBI or Inrange to get this done, You can get a US made trunnion from http://www.gunsnorthwest.com/. Expect to pay around 200-300 in labor and shipping plus parts. Quoted:

Wow guys! Thanks for all the advice.
As the AK was a gift from the wife for my 40th birthday and the date stamp is 1975 I wont be letting it go. I'm just going to fit it with a new fixed stock furniture set as I dislike the TAPCO stock. I will be getting the Arsenal next month. |

The SLR-107 is a great rifle and you'll be happy with it, and it will give you the folder you want. If you still want the WASR to be a "folder" you could just go with a Romanian folding folding which drops right into the fixed stock rear trunnion. It's not as comfortable as the polymer folder on the 107, but will give it the authentic Romanian folding stock look. |
