| I just got my first AK (WASR) and was wondering what the sling options are for a lefty. I would prefer the front attachment to be on the other side without having to add rails or anything. Have any of you used a Proctor sling on an AK? I like them on my ARs, but I'm not where I should attach the front to keep it from melting. |

You have a few options. I'm left handed and have adapted my WASR 10/63 to work well for me.
The basic option is to get a Blue Force Gear Universal Wire Adaptor. This slips through the front sling loop and then goes through between the barrel and gas tube. BFG has some good pics. BFG - Universal Wire Loop ~$25
Moderate option is adding a sling loop on the right side of a railed handguard. Another moderate option is adding a barrel band sling adaptor. I mounted one in front of the handguard retainer. Works well and adjustable. Used it for over 2 years without issue. Optics Planet - Uncle Mike's Magnum Barrel Band 13912 ~$13
Difficult option would be taking apart your rifle and welding a sling loop on the right side of the handguard retainer. This can be done but will probably run over a $100 if you take it to a gunsmith. I plan on doing this with my WASR-22. Would require removing the front sight block and gas block to access the handguard retainer.
Here's my rifle with the barrel band setup and an Echo 93 sling plate. Homemade sling with MASH Hooks and ITW hardware.
