Good luck with that, because it probably isn't going to work. You can use a Bulgarian AK-74 handguard retainer and Bulgarian AK-74 FSB's have always been on the pricey end. That's something you're either going to have to live with or settle for something else, like an AKM FSB.

I got the idea watching some 15 year old kid on youtube do it with a hammer and a piece of pvc pipe to pound the gas block on. Also in one of my other threads another poster said he has done 3 this year without a press. I am hoping I can.

I have also been told that theres a good chance my previous pin slots in the barrel will line up with the new gas block and fsb. Other wise I have no problem going with an AKM fsb, I kind of like that look but I would have to drill pin holes throug the top and I only have a hand drill.

I'm no expert, but just because you can hammer parts on and off, that doesn't mean you should.

Does your barrel have the slots milled out for the lower hg retainer? You basically need to look for a Bulgarian 74 lowers hg retainer er and you should be gtg.

If you don't have the slots milled on your rifle, just mill out the nubs on the inside of the retainer, then use a round file to file the slot to hold it in place. Measure twice, file once.

So? I use a hammer and punch on the last 10 Saiga conversions I've done. I even did it on my 105 build I just finished.

You used a hammer to beat off the fsb and gb? Not just to punch the pins out, but to completely removed those parts.

A rubber mallet was actually sufficient? Well OP, maybe it will work for you, but from my own personal experience it will take something more substantial.

The Chinese rifles are the worst, as in the hardest to get off.Russian and Bulgarian rifles are usually fairly easy.
