I am looking for the cheapest complete AK 7.62 out there; I've been wanting another for some time, but want to keep it around $450-$480.
It should be off reasonable quality and reputation, and come with pistol grip, except standard AK mags, and have FH/MB threading. The other day AIM had a Polish Sporter for $470 IIRC? I hesitated b/c I thought I could find it cheaper, and now they are gone. Thank you |

If you hunt, you can find a single-stack WASR for about 320. Converting the mag well is S I M P L E. I did my buddy's in an hour with a dremel and some flat files.
You can also pick up a NIB PAP AK Pistol for $399 shipped, or a PAP 5.56 AK Pistol for the same price WITH 10 magazines. If gunsmithing ain't your bag, you can find a WASR on G Broker or Armslist for about 379. Buck-up the extra coin, and you can get a factory Polish AK for about $100 more. -SF |
| The Wasr is a good rifle. I think the best buy right now is a N-pap. It is a high quality AK made by Zastava in Serbia. It also has a good potential to increase in value. You can get one with a Romanian 75 round drum from jgsales right now for $529. It is a little over your price, but probably worth the little extra for a high quality AK with a low end price. |

Got it. I can't think of anything NIB at $450 - $480. Definitely have options at $500 - $550 though (WASR, N-PAP). I'm a fan of a WASR at $500 but like WildBill13 said, the N-PAP is a solid AK too. Few N-PAP things to note:
Has non-standard furniture (influx of Yugos has started to increase aftermarket options though). Side rail sits slightly higher. Non-chrome lined bbl (not a huge deal). Some shooters experience cheek slap, some don't. Heavier than usual (8+ lbs vs typical AKM pattern at ~7 lbs) There are AK pistol options in that $450 - $480 range but it sounds like you're looking for a rifle. Best of luck in your search. |

Is this one any good, or just as good? USA made in Palm Bay?
AKM247 Rifle 7.62x39 The Sporter rifle from I.O. Inc has a match grade 41/40 chrome moly steel barrel. This semi-automatic, long-stroke piston-operated rifle is chambered in the traditional 7.62x39mm cartridge, and the construction and design is based directly from Polish AKM blueprints. The Sporter also features several upgrades over the traditional AK, including tough polymer furniture, and a handguard with a built-in accessory rail at the bottom for easily mounting lights, lasers, tactical grips, bipods, etc. On top of all these great benefits, it includes a limited lifetime manufacturer's warranty and is completely American-made in Palm Bay, FL SPECIFICATIONS: Mil-spec receiver 1:10 RH Twist Black polymer furniture Tactical pistol grip Tactical sling swivel Adjustable front & rear sight Overall Length: 36" Barrel Length: 16.25" Weight: 7lbs Military finish (Manganese phosphate / Parkerized) Bayonet Lug |

Your best bet, for a NIB rifle, is to pony-up a few extra dollars for a WASR. That extra $20-$30 makes a huge difference. |

Quoted: OK but why? Please explain? Isn't it the same Polish Sporter by I.O. we have been talking about? The AK that I.O. states is US made is built by them and with US parts. I am believe that the Polish AK that AIM sells has a chrome lined Polish made barrel and the US made I.O. has a non-chrome lined US made barrel.

IO doesn't have the best reputation for quality. Also, the people who bought the first batch of this particular rifle have been giving it mixed reviews. How long ago was that? Are Century guns GTG? Very recently. Google Pioneer Arms AK, or even search this forum, and look at what people had to say when they received their guns. Century guns are usually GTG, but I'd recommend buying from Atlantic as they'll give a cursory inspection before sending their guns out. ETA: There are two threads on the front page of this forum today regarding the Pioneer issues. |
