Would you buy WASR 10?
I have here in the past they were kinda junk. I was wondering if anything has changed. I see ak prices are coming down. |
| Bought one a year and some months ago from a store. No mag wobble, gas block is canted to the left just a hair and worked perfect the last 7-800 rds. Love it. Refinished the wood and polished the FCG and has a smoother trigger pull now. Paid $525 and love it. I would recommend one if you hand pick it. Like another person said, online can be risky. Right out of the box is worked 110% |
| Not bad guns. As others have said... Its best to look one over in person before shelling out the cash. My only gripe with them is that they lack "dimples". I know it really doesn't matter but to me an AK just doesn't look right without them. For that reason alone, I would try to track down a gently used SAR-1 over a WASR. |

I have one from years ago that has over 8500 rounds fired through it without one malfunction and I don't shoot from a bench. If you can buy one at a gun show or shop so much the better but buying one online is fine too. If you buy online inspect the rifle before you fill out the paperwork. Make sure the FSB, Gas Block, RSB, Front & Rear Trunnions are all straight. Inspect the rivets to make sure they are formed perfect. Also take several mags with you I.e., a surplus steel and a Bulgarian code 10 poly mag. check for mag fit and wobble. Pop the receiver cover off, pull the recoil spring, bolt carrier with bolt out and then insert a mag. Look to see that the mag feedlips are up under the receiver rails and parallel. Insert the bolt carrier and check that the gas piston isn't binding in the RSB or gas tube. The newer WASRs are better quality for the most part compared to the canted out of spec ones for years ago. Mine runs just as well as any Arsenal I own and the finish may be rough but it holds up better than the squid paint on the SGL rifles. Don't let the lack of dimples bother you. Their only purpose is to strengthen the sheet metal in that area of the receiver. Instead of dimples the Romanians welded two steel rails inside which adds the strength the dimples would have. The dimples have nothing to do with holding the mag. |
