Heres my choices locally M&M,I/O,wasr,century (folder) I dont like stock. No one has any arsenals.
Is the arsenal that much better then ones listed ?If so what makes them better? |
|
Arsenals are built with new Bulgarian parts. They are VERY nice guns.
Stay away from I/O. Century guns are usually fine, but if they make it themselves (as opposed to importing it, like WASR's, PAP, etc) it is something I'd avoid. I don't know much about the M&M guns, so of the ones you listed I'd get a WASR 10/63. If you can get something from online, JG sales has some nice Century Yugos, WASR's for around $600 and K-Var has some Arsenal rifles in stock, but be prepared to pay 1k+ |

OP if you wait a few more months you'll have more options and yes on average the Arsenal is going to be better than the four you listed. Just can't spend too much on it.
It's like buying a 6920. Is it the absolute best AR out there? No, but it's an excellent AR and it costs a few hundred more than your typical no-frills AR. Actually, bad analogy because the 6920 is built directly by Colt whereas the SGL-21's final assembly is not done by Izhmash...you get the point though... Arsenals are generally good quality and accurate AK-103 replicas so you pay a little more for it. Of the four you listed I'd take the WASR 10/63 if I could hand pick it. I'd also wait until they were $450 - $500 again. |

If you can hand pick the WASR, get it. You'll end up with a nice, Romanian AKM built with mostly military parts.
Make sure all the rivets look nice and round, not pressed in too hard, but no gaps under them either. Make sure the sights look fairly straight, and the gun itself is pretty straight. Most of them are built right, but there's always a few lemons. |
| You choice should be directed by WHY you are buying the gun not what gun people think are best . The best gun for you will be determined by your budget and the purpose for the purchase not the popular AK of the day. If you just need a good truck gun then you do not need a Arsenal for 1300 bucks and the M&M rifles would serve you just fine .So define the mission for the platform then set the budget and this should narrow down the choices . |

I agree my first was a ban model wasr that is still accurate and functional. my second was a ban model sam7r from you at alantic. great rifle even more accurate. My third is a romy g biuld and it is awesome as well. i still have these I have passed through others and traded as well but kept my favorites for different reasons. |

If youre intent is to have a real fighting gun and not be bubba bump-fire you cannot beat Russian/Bulgarian Arsenals, unless you go custom like a krebs or something and even then im not really sure what youre paying for.
Arsenals are the finest factory service Kalashnikovs built for the civilian market. Makes a lot of sense, considering they are built at the Russian Izhmash AK factory. My experience with them is a Russian SGL31 with 7n6 will toe the line with most issue service M4/M16 firing M855 in accuracy. They are solid 2-3 MOA rifles. Ive not seen one other "AK" on the civilian market that could toe the line with an Arsenal. Sure, they fire, but I like my rifles to shoot straight and not just at 25-100 meters. An arsenal will get you to 500 point, 800 area no problem. Arsenals are as close as you will ever get to legally owning a real Russian issue service AK. Sans the third pin-hole. Its a toss up between the SLR's and the SGLs. I love the SGL and would take it anywhere. Its a riflemans AK. |
| If we compare rifles to tools, then the AK is a shovel. Get it dirty, it works, get it rusty, it works, and it puts holes in things. Don't get me wrong, I love AK's. They aren't precision rifles but the darn things just plain work. I know everyone has their favorites, mostly cosmetic, but the bottom line is get one that works every time the trigger is pulled. Most of AK's of different manufacture I've seen shot by trained marksman shoot 2-4 inch groups at 100 yds. with most combloc ammo, with the exception of Yugo ammo (pretty but horribly inaccurate). I was lucky to attend a military foreign weapons school which was 2 weeks long. We fired every AK made even a North Korean model as well as commercial models. Qualification required firing out to 400 meters on human silhouette pop up targets firing thousands of rounds of ammo and I walked away knowing they all did what they were intended for. A friend has Romanian WSAR, considered the bottom of the barrel for desirability and has no problems after hundreds of rounds of ammo. The bottom line is get one you can afford, buy a lot of ammo and practice, practice, and practice some more. If I had to go to Mars and could take just one rifle, it would be an AK. Buy one and you'll love it. |
