Anyone running a silencer on their AK?  How many db's does it cut, is it enough to comfortably run it without ears in?

Not sure it matters at all, but I've got an SGL26, and the end of the barrel is threaded for a muzzle break, so it's just a screw on deal.

Also wondering about the process; I know it's a 6 month wait for approval, but is that only for the first silencer you buy, or for every one?

Thanks for any help

I dont have a can for any of my AK's, but those that have them have reported acceptable results allowing for use without ears, just as with other semi-auto rifles. Each can you buy requires a tax stamp, as each can is a separate NFA item. And your comment about 6 months for a tax stamp may be a bit low. Just prior to the recent panic, I asked a local Class 3 dealer about wait times for a suppressor I wanted, and he said 9 months. Much appreciated, thanks

You also have to remember half the noise you hear when firing a gun is the bullet breaking the sound barrier, so to be effective, you need to find "subsonic ammo".  GARY

The AK platform doesn't make a very good suppressor platform mainly due to these issues:

AK barrels rarely have concentric bores, I've seen more than a few posters over the years send a round through their endcap because of this issue.
Not a very quiet platform, as gas is vented into the open
Limited selection of M24.5x1 or M14 threaded suppressors.

I saw a You Tube review on these AK suppressors that looked interesting.

I don't think that the common statement that AK's don't make good hosts for suppressors is entirely true.  Sure, they are not the easiest, but they suppress just like any other semi-automatic with a bit of work.  You are going to have to check the threads to make sure they hold the suppressor concentric to the bore.  They probably won't.  So expect to do some custom threading, which will then lead to an adapter to mate your muzzle device.

I suppressed my Siaga 5.45 and it is every bit as quiet as my 10.5" AR.  Of course this involved stripping the entire rifle down (done anyway during the conversion) and having the barrel threaded to 1/2x28 and permanently affixing the Brakeout.  So take the costs of the labor into consideration.

I'm left with a rifle that I absolutely love, and that I can shoot without the concussion I normally get.

I suppressed my 14.5" M4 and didn't like it. I had to go out and get a 10.5" setup to suppress before it felt "natural". With an AK, I dunno how this would go down. Really, I just don't think suppressors and AK's go hand in hand unless you just have money to burn or a point to prove, and likely both.

I have 4 ak's. I also have an aac 762sdn-6. I am afraid of blowing up my can. I've really been toying with having my sar1 threaded to 1/2x28 and getting the correct mount for it. Crappy thing is that the 1/2x 28 mount in 762 is rare as hell.

So basically what your whole process will be is-
Acquire an ak. Then if it is 14x1 lh you will need to have it rethreaded to 1/2x28, which will most likely involve pulling the barrel, having an extremely competent smith who's done this operation before thread it for you, then reinstalling the barrel. Not really a do it yourself kind of thing. The costs add up but then again having a suppressed ak would be really nice.

My local NFA dealer just advised me that his customers are running ~10 months as of last week. He keeps accurate count.
