I have an AK74 parts kit and an ITM receiver. Im planning on taking it to a local gunsmith who will build it. What finish would you guys use? good source for a barrel? do i need chrome lined?

thanks!

Make sure he's an AK builder, not just a gunsmith. There is a difference.

I would go with a Molycoat finish, or something else similar, as it's close to what the Russians use (and maybe Bulgarians?). A chrome lined barrel in my opinion is preferred, but not a necessity. T'would be correct for a Russian or Bulgarian 74 though.

ok thanks guys. i got my parts kit today and it looks like new except for the wood. the wood is in good shape but needs to be refinished. I have been poking around on the forum on how to get that nice deep red color for the wood and there seems to be MANY ways to do it lol. This would be the first time i have done up a stock like this. what would you guys suggest as the easiest with best results for a new guy? or does it really matter?

also, what would be a good source for the chrome lines barrel for my bulgarian k74? I would like to use the barrel as one of the U.S. made parts for the rifle.

as always,

thanks!
