Hey all, I was wondering if I could get some assistance. Looking at the local gun show, I saw some AK-74 magazines for sale. I checked the magazine FAQ thread and did see anything, so I thought I would ask here. The magazines are flat black. Hole on the right rear of the magazine approximately one quarter length up from the bottom of the magazine. It looks like some white was spray painted on the top left at the feed lips. I couldn't see any markings at the bottom. No numbers, no clear markings. On one I saw something that looked like an upside down "u". Did the Europeans or Russians ever make non-metal lined 30 rounders? Price was $30.00 per. I only need one to satisfy my O.C.D. (I have 21 mags for 2 rifles). Sound familiar? Tantal maybe?

The closest match I can think of based on your description would be sanitized Russian mags. These were original Izhmash mags that had the mold marks grounded off then the entire magazine body coated with thick putty-like paint with an orange undercoat. They would appear as flat black. Most will have some kind of ink on the top area, usually 78 or 50. |
