Are these mags tough and reliable?

thanks

I just bought and received a 3 pack of mags for my 5.56. They don't feel as stout as PMags and the feed lips have a sort of flimsy feel to them as I loaded them. But they still look acceptable to me and they get a lot of good reviews, many comments about 'OK for the range', stuff like that. My guess is they're OK as long as they don't get beat around too much. Gotta be gentle with them I guess?

All mine have ran great in the 7.62 platform. I ordered 6 of them when they were 5 bucks a piece a few weeks ago. I just put them into my safe for back up mags. I'm still running my metal mags but the plastic ones ran just as good. And they do have a lifetime warranty

I passed on some at basspro just because they were tapco. Just cant bring myself to buy tapco products. Though I never owned any of their products.

I am in the same boat with you there I looked them over and am not impressed but if I were just getting into an ak and had to. I am sure you can do worse they do have lifetime warranty. I would prefer good ol mil spec metal mags hope they can still aty least keep the korean ones coming in.

I got some slickside Tapcos and they aren't too bad.

If they made them for the 5.45, and they put metal reinforcements in the feed lips, I'd probably go bankrupt buying those.

See this thread.

On page two, somebody seated a Tapco mag a whacked it with a mallet to try and get the mag lugs to shear. He couldn't do it. He got a Bulgarian mag to shear its lug after one strike. Take it for what you will, but the Tapco's seem plenty robust, especially considering the price and availability.

I own a few. I've been doing my own little torture test on one and its held up perfectly. I gotta say that they seem good to go... And they're the only tapco product I own.

I broke 3 before I sold them off. Split spine seam and sheered lug, they feed fine, but didn't stand up to hard use.
Basically, good for plinking.

What were you doing with them to cause that kind of damage?

Just picked up 2 for 11.99 each at local shop.  They got a box of Tapco AK mags in and 3 or 4 boxes of Pmags in.  The pmags usually go for 15 there but were marked up to 27.99 and a limit of 3 per customer.

My buddy picked up 3 pmags and the only high cap glock mag in the entire store he could find, a 15 round .357sig.  And he doesn't even have a glock in 357, lol.

Anyway the tapco mags fit my wasr like a glove.  Better then the 2 metal ones that came with it that have a slight jiggle.

Also started finishing my AK furniture today, just took it apart and sanded the wood with 0000 steel wool.  Put on first coat of minwax red mahogany.  Plan on doing at least 5 coats with 0000 sanding between each one.

i should have a half dozen tapco fakelite slabsiders at home waiting for me.

i will beat on them in the coming weeks and report how they worked.

i also bought a few more US PALM mags in "fakelite" just in case, as i know those hold up well.

I can't attest to them being tough and reliable but I bought four of them for $9 each, loaded them with 30 rounds each and shoved them into an ammo bag.  Six months from now I'll take 'em out and see how they run.  They lock up tight in both my MAK90 and Maadi and I expect them to work at least as well as the US Palms.

I sheered the rear lug dropping to prone, my mag unintentionally hit the deck and it ripped the lug right off. I split the spine seam on one of them from accidentally knocking it off a table onto cement, it was loaded and I guess the weight was more than it could handle when hitting a hard surface, split the back and spilled a bunch the rounds. I split a 2nd one down the rear seam also, but not 100% sure how it happened because I didn't notice it till then end of the day.
Overall, for the price, they are decent mags, but I would rather use mags that can handle accidents and unintended abuses, so that's why I exclusively use Circle 10s now.
I shoot though courses and a shoot house on a friends land pretty frequently, so I use my stuff a little harder than just going to a standard range.

I ordered one to try out. (smooth Orange)  I got one and one of the Bulgarian smooth black from weideners.  I now wish i had gotten more.  There are'nt for serious use, but to reserve my mil-spec mags as collectible and use the commercial mags for plinking.  If they break..so what, i'll just strip'em for spare parts to use on other mags.
