Gents-

Quick check of the hive to see if anyone else is having this issue...

I sent an AK off to In Range back in october and have the tracking number showing delivery and signature, however I'm about a month past the time frame stated for getting my rifle back and can't get in touch with them (have called a few times and have emailed 4 times).  I'm finding this a bit odd as I've dealt with In Range before and was not only happy with the finished project, but he was really responsive to emails.

Just looking to see if anyone else is having issues getting in touch with In Range, let me know, thanks...

Troy is sometimes out of the shop doing his race car gig. He does that also.
I don't live far from his place and have been planning on dropping off a Romanian G kit to have built up.

I have been having a lot of issues lately as well. He usually gets my stuff done in 2-3 months which is very prompt by build standards, but this time it took him 6 months just to start working on it. He usually will answer emails the same day, but now he rarely even responds. He said a few months ago that they had hit a slow down for whatever reason. I like him and he always does top notch work at a fair price, but this time it is getting a bit annoying. He emailed me a month ago to ask for payment and said he would have it done in a few days, so I have no idea what is taking so long and I hate to pester people.

Either way I can wait, but it would be nice to get an update once and a while.

I've dealt with In-Range once on a MAK-90 UF conversion. It was a less than pleasurable experience.

My dealings with Troy have been positive, hopefully everything will work out.

He has his own forum on theakforum.net; check in there (POLITELY) and you should get a response.  he's very good friends with a lot of the guys there, so if he doesn't respond, someone who knows his current situation should give you an update.

Thanks much!  So far all my experiences with In Range have been awesome, I'm sure this is just a mix up or a comms disconnect or something.

Troy will do you right. A lot of builders take 6 months or more to get a build done.

Great, thanks for all the info guys.  I've dealt with him before and the product was outstanding.

Troy was an absolute pleasure to deal with on my recent build and his work quality was top notch.  I think he does builds in batches (i.e. all the under-folders at once, all the side-folders at once, etc); that may account for some of the delay.  I've always talked with him via e-mail and he does respond the same day.  Try that instead of calling.  I'll bet you'll hear back from him today.

Also, I think a lot of people need to adjust their expectations on timing with all builders.  When you ship something off you sign up for the builder's services and the time frame that goes along with it.  High-quality builders may take additional time.  It's part of the deal.  I'd rather wait a bit longer to get my stuff back and get a top-notch product than get it back as a rush job, but maybe that's just me.

Troy has done 4 rifles for me this year. The work has been flawless and his comms have been excellent by E-Mail. He usually answers them early in the morning or late evening, by my experiences. BTW on the few times I called him, he did answer the phone, but it was in the morning during normal business hours.

The first two I sent at the beginning of the year and they were back in 6 weeks or so. The second two were sent right after I got the first two and it took 5 months to get those back and it was well worth the wait.

In the case of my rifles there were delays because he ran into OEM glitches that had to be corrected but which resulted in a correct and flawless product.NO, he did not charge me extra and while my rifles were delayed, I am very happy with the work AND the price.

Sorry if this sounds like I've been main lining the In Range Kool-aid, but I just wanted to relate my experiences on four (4) separate rifles, each with their own unique twist but all came back the way I wanted them. Sometimes these threads turn into a bashing and I just wanted to share MY experiences with Troy and In Range as very positive ones. YMMV

I don't think anyone is bashing him, we are just noticing that there has been a bit of a slow down lately. He used to have one of the fastest turn around times of any top tier builder, and it had been that way with the 4 other rifles I sent to him.

Didn't take it that way as I said "Sometimes these threads turn into a bashing" But I understand where you are coming from. The link I posted under "This just in" explains everything as well as why he isn't here......but you know that.....I just recognized your screen name. Just not used to seeing a different avatar here.

That is exactly how he does builds, not one at a time.  If you send in something that he isn't running a batch one it might take longer.

Now this is going back about two years ago BUT when I had that shitty Lancaster Arms ak-74 rough rider with the bad barrel in it, I sent it to Troy rather than dick around with Lancaster Arms.   Troy sold me a REAL Bulgarian barrel, installed it and refinished the rifle and I had it back in my hands in FIVE weeks from start to finish.  I shit you not.   And it was an excellent piece of work.    He even headspaced it correctly and test fired it in that time frame too.   The price was also very reasonable.

I have no idea what he is into these days, but I know he can damn sure do quality work when he has the time.  Word.
