| Anyone know how much it would cost to get an AK gold-plated? Real gold... 24 or 18 karat |

Assuming you're serious, you'd have to talk to a re-finisher service who offer gold plating for firearms.
Note that due to the price of gold and the cost of the special plating system the cost will be far more the the price of an expensive gun, much less an AK. Here's some who do top grade work and offer gold: http://www.fordsguns.com/ (Ford's is arguably the best re-finisher service) http://www.techplate.com/firearms_pl.htm |

Anyone know how much it would cost to get an AK gold-plated? Real gold... 24 or 18 karat Depends on how thick it is applied (anywhere from 1 to 10 microns), how much you'd need for the surface of an AK, metal substrate, etc. An 8-ounce jar of 24k gold plate will set you back about $300-$400. I'm not sure how much you'd need for an AK. You'd also need to prep the bare metal first. And presumably you'd also want someone who knows what they're doing to do the electroplating. That'll cost money, too. Probably at least $600-$700 total for a thin coat, but that is a W.A.G. I doubt it'd be much cheaper than that, and it could be much more expensive. As for the more interesting question of "Why you'd want a gold-plated AK?", I've learned to adopt the phrase "Well, if you like it, I guess that's all that matters." |

Because no else has one around here... I have enough guns to go out and shoot. I want one to play with around the house.... Its far from practical but shit... I like gold
It might not be worth it though... What about something like a golden duracoat finish? Or are you set on having it so shiny it's reflective? |

Why did I just imagine you saying that last sentence with a freaky deaky dutch accent and wearing a mustard velour track suit? "I like gooooooolld. Yesh. Its snot veird." |

You could also look into TiN, or titanium nitride. It's a self lubricating coating used on drill bits and tools. It's tough as heck, plus it looks similar to gold plating. Not sure if it would be any less expensive than gold, but I'd think it would be way more durable than gold.
My $.02. |

TiN has a matte like finish so it wont be shiny like gold TiN image. It looks shiny to me. That being said, it definitely would be dependent on the surface's texture that it was being applied to. |

IM me if you cannot find it in the EE for selling info. |

That thing looks like it was painted with gold spray paint.
