I picked up a WASR a few weeks back in a trade. I got around to shooting it last week. I took it and my MAK-90 to a range.
I was using Monarch ammo. I did not have any issues with the MAK-90, but with the WASR, every few rounds would smoke, from the receiver. It was coming out from behind the bolt after going back into battery....It didn't appear to have been over lubed....At first I thought it was the ammo, but the same ammo didn't smoke in the MAK-90...I plan on trying it again soon with Wolf and Tula....and a good cleaning...Any thoughts????? |

I fired about 10 rounds when I really noticed the smoke..I switched over to the MAK to see if it was the ammo.
The MAK never smoked but the WASR did...When I got home I broke it down to see about the inner parts of the receiver...it didn't look too oily...The guy shooting with me said it might be the chamber oversized slightly, he said common with some AK's. I will try it again this week, I was concerned that it may be a safety matter..but it was shooting decent groups for ofhand shooting... |

This may or may not be the issue but a quick check will tell whether it is or is not. Check the primer of your fired cases to see if some of them were pierced by the firing pin. My WASR smoked the first time I had it to the range and it was because the firing pin was piercing some, not all, of the primers. Take a peek and let us know. |
