I picked up a WASR a few weeks back in a trade. I got around to shooting it last week. I took it and my MAK-90 to a range.
I was using Monarch ammo. I did not have any issues with the MAK-90, but with the WASR, every few rounds would
smoke, from the receiver. It was coming out from behind the bolt after going back into battery....It didn't appear to have
been over lubed....At first I thought it was the ammo, but the same ammo didn't smoke in the MAK-90...I plan on trying
it again soon with Wolf and Tula....and a good cleaning...Any thoughts?????

Could be cosmoline or oil residue in the gas system. How may mags did you fire before the smoke appeared? AK's get hot pretty quick and it's normal for the rifle  to smoke a little bit.

I fired about 10 rounds when I really noticed the smoke..I switched over to the MAK to see if it was the ammo.
The MAK never smoked but the WASR did...When I got home I broke it down to see about the inner parts
of the receiver...it didn't look too oily...The guy shooting with me said it might be the chamber oversized
slightly, he said common with some AK's. I will try it again this week, I was concerned that it may be a
safety matter..but it was shooting decent groups for ofhand shooting...

This may or may not be the issue but a quick check will tell whether it is or is not. Check the primer of your fired cases to see if some of them were pierced by the firing pin. My WASR smoked the first time I had it to the range and it was because the firing pin was piercing some, not all, of the primers. Take a peek and let us know.

I set the handguards on a WASR-2 on fire during a long string of shooting...

Mine really smokes after a few mag dumps with the Slidefire device.

Your rifle is most certainly malfunctioning. I will gladly offer you $100 for it.

It's prbably just crud burning off.

I really appreciate your concern......somehow I feel there might be an underlying motive...

Crud burning off is my guess.  Both my 10/63's smoked when I 1st got them. After about 500 or so rounds they settled in & only smoke after many strings of fire.
