I have a Polytech spiker that does not have its box, just it's sling and three chrome follower'ed mags, and I have had it for at least three or four years and could care less, it does nothing for me, is it wrong to sell it and buy an AK that interests me, an AMD 65 on a FEG receiver from TGI (I think?) so tell me, are these the best AMD that I can get for the current times?   Can I expect problems out of these AMDs? (canted sights, stoppages, loose mag wells, normal shit-built AK issues?) Can I run 30 or 40 rd  mags in them past that front grip? Can I find a decent source for those pretty metal capped, blond wood grips, which I have learned are incorrect for them, but don't give a crap 'cause they look good? Aside from style, how does the quality compare to the Polytech? Similar, just a different breed of cat?

What should I ask for the Poly to move it fairly, but quickly? It's in about as new (but shot, I know, I shot two 30 rd mags through it, cleaned it and put it away) BTW, This is not a for sale ad, I'm not looking for offers, but a realistic asking price quote from someone that doesn't need one but may have been tracking these older Chinese gun sales more closely then I have. I know where ads go on here, and I'll pic it and post it when I have an idea of a fair asking price.

Any help, either an opinion on the AMD or a value on the Poly, would be appreciated.

If it just sits there and you don't enjoy owning it, by all means sell it for something you think you will actually enjoy.

I'm not a fan of the AMD's, so I can't help you any with them.  They just don't appeal to me.

Polytech value wise.. one just sold on another forum for $1,330.  Came with a sling and one mag.

I have an AMD-65 and lust for a fixed stock Polytech spiker.   Before you buy the AMD see if someone around you has one you can try out. I like my AMD but they aren't everyones cup of tea. I have found I like building them from kits more. That way I can build it with an improved stock and handguards. Just makes them a little nicer to shoot and handle.

AMD's at J&G are like $400.  I think they are awesome and compact.  The finish isn't as pretty as the deep bluing found on Chinese rifles but it's pretty tough.  My AMD is very well put together.  You won't have canted sights, stoppages, or a loose mag well.  Actually, my AMD has the tightest magwell of all my AK's.  I can't use some of the Yugo BHO in it.  You can run 30 and 40 rnd mags, it's just a little clumsy getting use to it.

Cash out and get what you want and will shoot. "Nice" guns that you can't shoot don't do anything for me.

Keep 'em moving!

I sold off a lot of Chicoms from double underfolders to Legends and MAK-90s. Best move I ever made.

The TGI AMD-65 I had was a good gun and I am going to pick up another to go with my WASR-10. I had no complaints about mine. They are ugly like the WASR but they are great guns.

Just make sure you get a "Made in Hungary" gun. Not a "receiver made in Hungary" but  "assembled in USA" gun.  Sell the Poly for $1200, buy the AMD for $400, & pocket $800.  GARY  N4KVE

Yeah, well, I ordered it from Centerfire Systems yesterday, so I hope I got a good one, but yeah, I'm going to get the camera out tonight and get pics and a formal ad up for the Polytech, I was thinking $1250, shipped, with all three mags & sling, and MAYBE there's a cleaning kit scratch that, there IS a cleaning kit in the butt trap. Thanks for the price confirmation, it SEEMS as though I could get more MAYBE, but I'm not looking to retire off of this thing, if you know what I mean. I MAY just also use $4 bones from that extra balance and get a second Glock 19 on the LE/Mil discount program, that seems like a worthy expenditure, no?

Its like a woman, if it dont do it for you trade her in for a newer model.  I prefer to have as many guns as I can possible have or was that women?  I get mixed up sometimes.  c.

Either should double in value over ten more yrs.

The Poly is going to continue to be highly sought after. The AMD is a good, compact SHTF gun. I'd love a Poly, but not for 2x the $ of a Norinco.

Sell Polytech, and buy an MAK 90 AND a AMD 65!

:))

Well, I just sold it, it lasted all of oh... four minutes at $1350, which causes me to wonder what I COULD have gotten, BUT, I did OK and have a second buyer waiting if #1 falls through...
Pics?

You did the right thing IMO. It's always better to have a shooter than safe queen.

ke-
I agree. I once let go of a SIg Sauer P-229 Custom Shop SAS simply because it was too gorgeous to shoot. I replaced it with a Masterpiece Arms Mini 9mm MAC that I bump-fire brick, after brick of cheap ammo through. In my eyes, it was a good move. To most... Probably not. The only "higher-end" guns I have these days are my dad's old Winchester model 55 take-down that I inherited when he passed, and my Arsenal SLR-107CR which I'm still waiting to SBR when my stamp arrives.

I keep the Winchester because it is priceless in my eyes, and the Arsenal because it is my Holy Grail gun, and actually gets used. I see no need to keep a fancy blaster on hand, when it doesn't suit your wants/needs. Might as well have something in the stable that will make you happy. There's always another guy who would love to have the toys you no longer play with. Glad to hear you are getting what you wanted. Hopefully, that Chicom is going to a good home where it will see more distinguished duty than gaining value in the back of some guy's safe.

Thanks, I looked, but all they have is some advertised as possibly slightly ratty (which of course, means ratty as hell!) I'll just shoot it as is for now, then look as time permits, Lord knows, that's what USUALLY works the best. When I'm looking for something, I can NEVER find it....

You'll like the AMD-65. Mine is my favorite AK. 30 and 40 round magazines are not an issue at all; I really wish that people wouldn't keep this dumbass internet rumor alive and let those who've actually used 30 and 40 round magazines in an AMD comment about it. You can expect extreme reliability and a nice finish. I find the stock quite comfortable. People exaggerate about it being uncomfortable. Last but not least, you're in for a hell of a fireball every time you pull the trigger. That's my favorite thing about it.

Here's mine with a 40 round magazine

Yeah, I saw them, I'm going to call them after the AMD arrives (which COULD be today!)

Wife and I rationally discussed acquisition of another Blue Label Glock 19, (with balance of proceeds from sale of Polytech) and she talked me out of it, pointing out that my logic for having an IDPA G19 and a carry G19 was slightly redundant, since I already have a Kahr PM9, CW45, an LCP, a 442, a 44 Bulldog, a shrouded Agent, an NAA Mini 22 WMR and possibly one or two other carry guns....   Damned logical women...

Anyone remember when Tapco was blowing out the matching AMD parts kits for $69? This was right before the building craze exploded. I was going to order a pack of 10, but decided not to because at the time I thought that an AK with a shorty barrel, no front handguard & wired stock was of limited practical value, and waited for the Romy kits to come in instead.

I own a  amd65 and its sorta a pain to load the 30 or 40 rnd mags its not as easy weasy.  You kinda have to load slower than nornal and get the mag at the right angle but it will go in and out.  You can after awhile do it faster but true speed reloads not really.

Not true. I can insert a 30 or 40 round magazine in my AMD-65 just like any other AK.

Well, so I got that AMD 65 from Centerfire Systems, and waited a full week to go shoot it. It was interesting to note that while most metal mags and the 20 rd Tapco mag that came with it fit just fine, I had one Yugo BHO mag that simply would not pivot far enough back to lock in, as well as an Arsenal 5 rd mag that wouldn't either, it was as though they were too long and hit the crossbar in the receiver at the back of the mag area and would not finish pivoting up to lock in, while other mags from several different Warsaw Pact manufacturers all fit/functioned just fine, although some did exhibit a bit of the wobble that folks referred to regarding these guns. I will say though, that I was tickled with the accuracy and functioning of the piece and it damn sure is a keeper! I can hit a soup can at 100 yds with it, without much difficulty and didn't have to touch windage at all. Going to Norfolk Scope gun show tomorrow to humor myself into thinking I might find some pretty wood grips or a deal on some good mags for it (yeah, right!), but then I will most likely come home and order what I need from Apex or some such dealer on line. I'm glad I did this, that Polytech just didn't do it for me...

Oh, and for the record, there are no issues with inserting a 30 or 40 rd mag in it whatsoever...

I had the same issue with my Yugo's and a few of my chinese flat backs.  A romy 3 rnd mag wouldn't go in at all, not that I really care, just something of note.  I love my AMD, I need another one.
