I have a couple fixed stock .223 polytechs and an underfolder.
I shot the underfolder for the first time today and it is spitting out shells with a little ding in them.
What exactly causes this? Is it something I should be concerned with? (I don't care about reloading the brass)
My other rifles do not seem to do this...
I'm shooting PMC .223.

Appreciate any info! Thanks

My Galil does the same thing. I've been told its from hitting the charging handle on the way out.

I know mine hit my dust cover and get the same dings

My Norinco .223 does the same to brass.  It just nicks a steel case though.

Mr bulgy slr-106 does the same thing pretty sure its from the dust cover not the charging handle.

When its in the middle of the casing like that, it is 99.9% of the time the dust cover because of the way the shell is spun from the receiver when hitting the ejector.  If you are having a dent in the case around the rim where the bullet is seated in the shell, then that is from it hitting a galil style charging handle.  I had dents around the rim of my shells in a RJ zmkr rifle because of the galil style charging handle.  There was even a little bare spot where I could see the casing making contact.  But I got lucky that saiga bolt carriers are able to swap back and forth(between 7.62, 5.45, and .223).  So I ended up finding a used one to swap out and kept the old carrier as a spare.

I had a .223 Saiga do this, and as a reloader it bothered me.

Wrapped the charging handle in a few layers of electrical tape solved the problem for the most part.

I know mine is from the charging handle. The CH has a worn down spot there from all the shells hitting it, and a shell will smack the heck out of your knuckle if you cycle it manually.

Mine used to gouge up one side (From hitting the chamber) and dent the other side from ejection.

It went away after a few hundred rounds of breaking in and polishing the chamber.  Still dents the other side though.
