Taken right of a websight selling the TWS handguards "The bushings also tension the barrel fore and aft, thereby improving barrel harmonics and accuracy." I am fairly new to AK's but everything I have read states to the contrary. I love the look of this accessory, but really care more about the function of the rifle. I have searched but I couldnt find any evidence with this specific rail system to either prove or disprove this claim...any input would be appreciated. I am ordering a TWS dogleg rail and am somewhat torn between using an ultimak rail and the TWS handguard. Mainly my concerns are weight and functionality.

Can't say for sure if BBL harmonics will improve or not but they will change. Short of free floating the BBl (which doesn't always improve accuracy), and can't be accomplished with usual methods on AKs, there's no guarantee anything can be made better with tensioning the BBL. Trial and error and finally success is what eventually works since somehow all Rifles respond slightly differently to mods.

The New TWS hand-guards are nice and light. Definitely lighter than any other full length railI I've seen. I just installed a set on my early Saiga 223 (mocked up at the moment –– need a bigger BBL bushing up front due thicker BBL). All I can say is it looks really good. Feels really good too. And is Really Well Made.

Is it worth the extra coin??? I think so, but others probably won't. My 2 centavos: try one. You'll either like it and if not, sell it on the EE for a little less than you paid. You should get most of your investment back. Only way to know is to try it –– Damn expensive Hobby this is isn't it?
