So I've taken on a new project to build two SBRs, one based on the AR platform, and the other based on the AK platform. This

started out on the discovery of the Draco Mini, and in one gun store trip, the project was borned. Both have been tested as

pistols, and are running 100% in their calibers, so now the long wait for SBR Form 1s to come back on the trust (6 months). Here's

the meterial, although note that stocks have not yet been ordered since the stamps aren't back.

The primary reasons for these builds is to determine the overall practicality of a PDW size weapon based on two different platforms, using a readily available caliber, which can be suppressed well (heopfully) This could have been done with .300 BLK on the AR platform, but not so easily on the AK, hence the caliber.

AR Build
- Spikes lower
- DD LPK
- Magpul MOE Kit from DSG Arms for Pistol Grip, buffer tube, spring, buffer, may use M1S pistol buffer assembly instead
- Model 1 Sales A3 Upper
- Citadel 7.5" barrel
- M1S Upper Rail Gas Block
- Free Float Pistol Quad Rail
- Primary Arms Micro Dot
- Gemtech HVT 3-prong Flashider
- Badger Charging Handle w/extended latch
- M1S 7.62x39 BCG
- C-Products 30 rnd mags
- LaRue QD VFG

AK Build
- Midwest Rail
- Ace Sidefolder Block
- Primary Arms Micro Dot
- Gemtech HVT 3-prong Flashider
- Euro Steel Mags
- Texas AK Trigger Group
- Ace Sidefolder Block
- Magpul MOE Kit from DSG Arms for Pistol Grip, buffer tube
- LaRue QD VFG

After they are complete I'm planning the following data collection/testing.

Functions testing:
500 rounds of standard Russian 122 Grain FMJ, 250 with HVT suppressor installed, 250 without
100 rounds of Roll your own 220 Grain Soft Points with HVT Suppressor installed, possibly w/Osprey 45 installed as well

No cleaning done during testing, note FTF, FTE, or other failures, video the entire testing

Attributes to measure:

Weight - w/mag, w/o mag, w/suppressor HVT, w/suppressor Osprey
Length - OAL folded, extended etc.
General handling characteristics

I'll post pictures of current builds as pistols in a few days, impatiently waiting the final results.

Very cool.  Dying to see pictures of the build and final product.  I am going to add some Class 3 stuff to my arsenal this year, all of which will be SBR's and a couple suppressors.

I moved to VA just to be sure :-)

One correction above, the AK will use a US Palm AK pistol grip.

Here's the images of the soon to be SBRs in their pistol form, still missing the Palm Grip!

7.62x39 ARs are a blast.  I have 2 (YHM and Armalite) and love them.  My 5.56 ARs stay in the safe while their x39 brothers get all the love these days.

Have you ever done any subsonic loading? I've loaded up some 220 grain loads, with 10.5 grains of 4198, which should run subsonic, and I believe no chance for SEE, if it exists.

very neat! Looks like quite a pair! Get a suppressor next that they can share!

No handloading for me.  I feed mine nothing but Barnaul and GT.

I've got one, a Gemtech HVT, I shot a few hundred rounds of them yesterday with it on, decently loud still, the short barrel doesn't help I would imagine, and they are supersonic. The subs I loaded up were very quiet, but well below the speed of sound, so a few more grains is in order, and I hope they will both cycle more reliably.

I've been experimenting with subsonic loads for these guns and have come up with a decent one. 220 Grain Sierra Soft point over 12.8 grains of 4198 with a large rifle primer seems to do the job very well. Just subsonic with the supressor installed, and it runs both with and without the supressor. Very happy so far, just impatiently awaiting my stamps back.
