I am a little bit confused on the import ban timeline as it relates to AK imports and I know yall can help me get it right.
1968- GCA of 1968 bans import of non sporting (full auto and select fire) firearms 1989- George HW Bush implements Executive order to expand non-sporting to include semi auto rifles with military features. 1993- Klinton gets mad at china and band import of all firearms that aren't sporting shotguns. 1998- ???? Something happened and no more WUMs, MAADIs, CURs, etc are imported. 2002ish?- receiver and bbl ban? No more SARs, FEG AKs 2010/11??- firearms built with machine gun barrels banned? WASR has new Romanian bbls. What am I missing? Why were SARs imported after a receiver ban in 98? Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
| The barrel ban, which is the cause of the last two items on your list, is from Clinton being a signer on a UN treaty in non-proliferation of evil assault rifles. I don't know the exact date, as I recall, it was signed in Chile. There were a lot of barrels in the pipeline, and in storage in the US, so it took a while for supplies to dwindle. |

Bush 41 really tea bagged us over the California school yd shooting. We should keep voting for the "lesser of two evils" because Republicans have never harmed gun owners. It's what people do. I have never understood why. Both parties want your rights, they just want to take them in different ways. They don't even care what the position is anymore, they just want to be opposite of what the other party line is. And now this election is becoming Theocrat versus Democrat. |

98 ban sunset and the allowed the some stuff back in. Then came 922r IIRC..... The 89 ban sunsetted? 922r was part of the 89 ban i thought? No it did not sunset. It went into effect circa july 89. Break break 922 went into effect 30 nov 89. Two seperate issues. People often merge or combine the two but that is not correct. 922 "compliments" for lack of a better word the 89 importation ban. Clear as mud huh. |

Bush was not re-elected –– largely because gun owners abandoned him. I think the Republicans got the message in that election –– you fuck with the gun lobby/populous at your own political peril. Let's hope they don't forget it that lesson. "W" was a friend of gunowners. |

IIRC...again, I didn't see any Romanians come in until after the Chinese stuff was banned. There was a dry period, then the Romanian stuff came in followed by a small amount of the milled Bulgarians. Then they only started showing up with single stack mags, but building was starting to take off then. |

Aren't the large amounts of former East Bloc kits available over the past 10 years the result of many of these nations trying to offload their 7.62 and 5.45 rifles because they joined NATO and want to adapt to 5.56? I could be wrong but I thought I would ask. |
