Doing my first conversion today.  I am not planning on reusing the BHO.  What, if anything, needs to be done with the slot/hole where the lever used to protrude?  I mean its an AK, so what if a little schmutz gets in that hole, right?
Welding is not an option.

I used JB weld.

I used nothing! My Saiga .308 is 6 years old, & I didn't want the BHO lever, so I threw it away. The hole in the receiver is still there, & I don't even notice it. No problems with the slot.  GARY  N4KVE

It's easy for the spring which holds the lever down to get bumped up off the lever during recoil. This results in the lever sliding up into the receiver and the bolt locking back. Now, with no spring you have to pull the bolt back, and shake the rifle around hoping the lever will find it's way back down out through the slot. The odds of this happening can be lessened by creating a groove for the spring to rest in, but it is still possible. I've never had it happen on my 5.45, but I hear it's a more common problem on the 12 gauge Saigas.

Mine has never done that after thousands of rounds.  Did you get the spring positioned correctly?  Also, I shortened mine so about 1/8" protrudes out of the receiver to keep me from accidentally engaging it when I'm shooting.
