Why haven't any manufacturers stepped up on these? They are an extremely simple design and are fetching astronomical prices! It would be nice to order a new American made triangle stock that came with a template for cutting the trunnion.

all has to do with the cost of setting up the stamping operation versus the number of sales...VERY limited market.

it has been thought of.

cheapest way would be if someone like Arsenal bought the stamping dies from their overseas sources....

Why would it be any more expensive than designing and producing any other stock? These are a proven "hot" item that can easily be reverse-engineered, as opposed to making a design from scratch, that may be ill-received by the market.

They are only a "hot item" for a very limited market. The costs to set up manufacturing for the stock, trunnions and other hardware would be prohibitive considering the size of the market. The cost per unit would be incredibly high unless you could sell thousands of them...and that's not very likely. Kits are drying up fast and not many people are willing to spend the time, effort and money to convert a fixed-stock AK74 to a folder.  As stated above, the only cost-effective option would involve acquiring the military production equipment at a low cost.

Producing the stock alone wouldn't be very practical since people who have the trunnions and latch typically already have the stock.

DPH arms actually did have some produced in China a while back. I want to say they had some QC issues though.

sounds like the perfect item for you to make your millions.
say it costs you 100K to have tooling made up, cast some parts..whatever. how many would you have to seel for a break even? aint worth it!

These are all valid points, I just don't understand how these companies can produce 5-10 different varieties of AK stocks that I hardly ever see on actual guns, but the price to produce a really popular version is too prohibitive. For that matter, why isn't someone importing them? I would put some effort into making my fortune on this, but it's too hard to log off arfcom and get off the couch....

That's the difference between inexpensive molded polymer stocks that are easily interchangeable with the majority of AKM-style rifles and much more expensive steel parts (stamped stocks/milled trunnions) that require you to completely rebuild the rear-end of those same rifles.

It's easy to sell a $40 stock that requires nothing more than a screwdriver and 90 seconds to install.  Not so easy to sell one that costs 10x more and requires a lot of specialized metal work.

The problem also is in most cases without some fugly adapter you have to spend more money to modify the rec. for the lock mech. that has to be put into the side of the reicever. The adapters that I have seen to avoid this lock do not look very good so I would not want one unless it was all made correctly with a slotted rec. stamping for it. and all hardware and beens parts kits are so much in the end why not just buy one wit it and be done.

Ok then, how about a steel reinforced polymer version with an ace-style hinge? I would buy it, lol.

It wouldn't be the same. Guys like me are going to use the real thing or pass. It is about $140-$160 for an ACE stock, adapter block, and a hinge. I don't see why $250-300 is so hard to accept for the real deal AK100 stock.

Other stocks on the market, like ACE, have more than one application.  So a bigger market.

Things like the polymer stocks are similar.  They have parts that are used for more than one application.. like the M4 type telestocks can be used on more than just an AK.

Its one of those things where the market seems big to the people who want the part, but to the companies trying to profit off of making the parts the market is actually pretty small.    If someone actually tooled up to make these in the US I doubt they'd be much cheaper than the imported parts.

I guess my dreams of a cheap stock are cursed to stay dreams. Oh well, that's life.

hey it ain't a triangle folder but it still is 100% solid!

These go right into standard akm tang and mine has been solid folds out of the way locksd up solid folded or open! I like the triangle better but I like that I can switch back!

Only problem is they weigh a ton.

true compared to the triangle but they are solid.

Let me let you in on a secret if you already have the AK100 poly folder and want the triangle.

That little block assembly KVAR sells with the triangle metal stock and hinge on it that drops into a std. full stock AK can be removed from the bracket and mounted on a side folding gun.  For $149.99 no less.

That's how I got the metal triangle folder for my SLR-106UR.

So, if you have the SGL 31-94 and want to replace the poly side folding stock with the trangle metal folding stock, all you have to do is just drop it in?

It should provided you have the same hinge pin dia. as the Bulgarian rifles do.

Can someone verify if the SGLs have a Russian pin or not?

even though DPH stuff needed tweaking, I'd still like the option! Right now there's pretty much nothing out there except whats in the consumers hands. I would love to buy a DPH right now...

I bought one of the DPH stocks a while ago. I then found a Russian a little later. I can say at least for the stock, the DPH triangle looked to be made every bit as good or better than the Russian. I sold the stock for thirty bucks and am going to use the rest of the parts towards the Russian one.

I had 8 of them. They were fine except for the heat treating issue. They did look a little brownish though.

yea, the one I owned was a bit off also. There is or was a guy on theakforum that was heat treating them for like $28 shipped and returned. Was a really good deal. I sold mine b/c I came across a real 5.5. I'd still like the option of the crappy knock off though. DPH really should get into the game, they could be selling a shit ton of these right now.

User    HobbyMachinist    was the one doing the heat treating on these. I agree, the cheap knock-offs were a great option especially if you had a 4.5mm rear block and just needed to use the parts from the cheapo to complete it, or if you wanted to put a triangle stock on something that had a polymer folder and not break the bank.
