I've been out of the game for a few years and no longer know who the better AK builders are.  Back when I posted here more, the big builders were Troy at InRange, Ohio Rapid Fire, AK-USA, and a poster here who went by the handle "cnewt" I think.

Are any of these guys still around?  Or what builders would you all recommend for me?  Thanks.

Randy at Sledgehammer Arms is still building kits and is one of the best builders I've used.

ORF is no more.

I have Arizona Response, Overland, and POHF builds and am pleased with all of them.  I would certainly do business with any of them again.

Thanks guys.  I used to have an original, first-run AR15.com Special Edition Bulgarian AK-74 (SEAK) that was built by ORF.  Guess times have changed.

I also saw a photo of a gun built by Jesse at 762 LLC.  The guy who posted the picture highly recommended him.  Has anyone else had a gun built by him?

ORF's owner actually died and his family shut down the company afterwords.

Really? thats the first I herd of him dieing. I'm pretty sure he just ran his company into the ground from being an asshole to his employees and firing his CNC machinist.

ORF got off to a big start.  But it seemed like they expanded big time and tried to take on way to many projects and the place just came undone.

AK-USA hasn't updated their front page of their website since 2006.

I don't have the tools, the skills, or really the time to go about building an AK - how much does a builder typically charge to put together a parts kit? Say, a Bulgy 74 kit? Including the re-finish.

The prices vary with the builders but fixed stock demilled kits with original barrel cost around $300 including refinishing, underfoolders and sidefolder $350 and up.
