I recently acquired a milled Mak 90. Both the upper and lower tangs have been removed to facilitate a sidefolder stock. Thinking I would prefer traditional wood, can tangs be fabricated, and be welded back on?? Who does this type of work? Any idea on cost? Thx. Joe

That's an "iffy" job.
The receiver is hardened and the heat from welding will damage the heat treat in the rear of the receiver.

My opinion is that you'd be better off selling the folder to someone wanting a milled folder and buying a milled with intact tangs.
If you insist on trying it, this is not a job for the local welding shop.  They may know welding but they don't know firearms welding.

I'd suggest an AK expert like Chris Horn of Flagstaff, Arizona  928-607-0234.

I've heard of people welding a lower tang on ban era rifles that didn't have them.  So it is do able.

I have no idea about issues with heat treating though.

You could also have the back of the receiver welded up completely and have the receiver milled for an underfolder stock.
